How you can apply for an Irish student visa from Nigeria

You can’t travel to Ireland from Nigerian without a visa. Before you can get a visa, you need to have a reason or a purpose for travelling down to Ireland. There are several categories of Irish visas. They include study, visitation and vacation.

Since you aren’t going to Ireland for vacation or visitation, you have to apply for an Ireland Study visa.

 Ireland Study Visa

The Ireland Study Visa is a permit that you need to get before you can be allowed to travel down to Ireland to study in an educational institution in Ireland. You can travel on a long-term or a short-term basis. The Irish government placed the Ireland Study Visa under the ‘Short-term’ and ‘Long-term’ visa categories in Ireland.

If the course you have been admitted for is longer than 90 days, you can apply for an Ireland Study Visa.

There are two different types of Ireland Study Visa. They include the long-term ‘D Study Visa.’ With this, you can study and stay in Ireland for over 90 days. Then there is the short-term ‘C Study Visa.’ With it, you can stay and study in Ireland for not more than 90 days.

 Documents needed for Ireland Student Visa

If you want to apply for any of the two Ireland student visas, you need some documents. You must ensure that all your documents are accurate and there is no discrepancy. Inaccurate documents could make your visa application to be rejected. Below is a list of documents that you need to apply for the Ireland Student Visa.

  1. Application form and questionnaire: You will need to fill an application form and a questionnaire. Fill them correctly and honestly. See the application form here.
  2. International passport: You will need an international passport that is valid for six months. You also need colored photocopies of all pages of the passport.
  3. Passport photographs: You will need two passport photographs that are not older than two months old. Old passport photographs might be rejected.
  4. Letter of application: You will need a signed letter of application that will explain why you wish to come to Ireland. The application letter should also contain the details of any family member living in Ireland and any other European Union member state.
  5. Undertaking: You will need to sign an undertaking that you will abide by the conditions of your visa and you will be law-abiding and peaceful in Ireland. You will also agree that upon expiration of your visa, you will leave Ireland.
  6. Letter of acceptance: You will need a letter of acceptance from a college in Ireland stating the following:

  8. The details of the course you will be studying in Ireland
  • The amount that is payable for your course
  1. An evidence of payment
  2. Indication if the college has taken out medical insurance on your behalf or not
  3. Educational gap: Relevant documents that show information on gaps between the period when you were enrolled in full-time education and when you applied for a study visa to Ireland. You must fill in all employment history if you were employed in that period.
  4. Electronic Transfer of Funds document: You will need a copy of the Electronic Transfer of Funds (ETF) to the Irish bank of the college that accepted you for study. The copy of the document must include the name, the bank details, and address of the beneficiary. It must also contain the details of the sender. You can also bring along a receipt that shows that the course fees have been lodged to an approved payment service for student fees. This could be the electronic fee payment service offered by Pay to Study or International Student Payment Service (ISPS)
  5. Exam results, qualifications and other relevant documents that show that you are capable of following the course you were admitted for.
  6. Sponsor or personal bank statements for the last 6 months that shows that you meet the financial requirements enough to cater for your living expenses in Ireland.
  7. Certificate of health insurance or travel insurance
  8. Original letter issued to you by Irish authorities if your visa application has been refused anytime in the past.
  9. A proof of accommodation in Ireland. This should include the address of your host, the address where students like you will stay or a letter from your school indicating that you will be given accommodation.

 Other important things to know about Ireland Student Visa

The Ireland student visa takes about 8 weeks to process, so you should apply as early as possible.

You can check online to know if your visa has been processed using your visa application number. The portal is always updated weekly.

If your visa is approved, the embassy where your documents were sent to will fix a visa to your passport.
