May 8, 2017 – In Lagos, Woman Who Stabbed Husband To Death For Playing Baba Ijebu Lotto Jailed For 7 Years
A woman identified as Onyinyechi Akunne was today sentenced to 7 years behind bars for killing her hubby, Abuchi Akunne, 35, during an argument over “Baba Ijebu” lotto.
Onyinyechi got a light sentence following a plea bargain where the initial murder charge was changed to charge of causing grievous bodily harm to which she pleaded guilty.
Her sentence is to start from the day she was remanded in prison custody which was the 28th of March 2015.
According to police prosecutor, the incident happened at the couple’s residence at No 85 Idimu Road, Ejigbo, Lagos.
On the day Abuchi Akunne was murdered, he was sitting on a chair looking at his Baba Ijebu Lottery tickets as his wife was preparing a meal.
Angered by her husband’s addiction to lottery, Onyinyechi too the knife she was using to cut vegetables and stabbed him fatally in the chest.
The deceased reportedly died on the spot.
Onyinyechi who was pregnant at the time the offence was committed gave birth in kirikiri.
The toddler was in court with her mother for the sentence today.
