Father Of Seven Brutally Stabbed To Death in Owode Ajah Lagos

Man Stabbed To Death In Ajah Lagos Refused To Vacate Uncompleted Building After 15 Years Of Residence

Olalekan Okeowo, a 53-year-old man and father of seven children, was brutally stabbed to death in his home in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident occurred in an uncompleted building at Salvation Estate in the Owode community, Ajah area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the victim was asleep in his bed when he was attacked. The assailant made his way into the building around midnight and stabbed Okeowo, who engaged in menial jobs, to death. His wife, Titilayo, who was nursing seven-month-old twins, heard him begging for his life and rushed to the scene. Sadly, she arrived too late as her husband had already passed away due to the severe injuries.

Titilayo revealed that they moved into the uncompleted building about 15 years ago and covered one of the rooms where they slept in the night. Okeowo, however, slept in the other room, which is more like a sitting room where he placed a bed with a mosquito net. According to Titilayo, he was outside on Saturday evening and returned around 11 pm after his meal.

The couple was asleep when Titilayo heard her husband’s voice saying, “Please don’t kill me.” She quickly rushed out of the room to check on him. Her first son, who got to the room before her, said he saw the shadow of someone exiting the entrance of the building. When Titilayo saw her husband, he was already in a pool of blood. She quickly reached out to two young men who lived close to their building to assist her. They also called someone who helped them with his car.

Okeowo was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was rejected in the first hospital they took him to before he was later taken to the Lagos Island General Hospital. “When we got there, workers on duty said there was no bed space. At that point, my husband was telling us not to allow him to die. It was later that they provided a bed and started to treat him. It was around 3 am that he died,” Titilayo narrated.

Titilayo said her late husband was preparing to secure another apartment before the incident happened. The owner of the building had called to inform them that he was ready to sell the property. On Thursday, April 27, the agent in charge of the building sent someone to inform Okeowo about the owner’s decision. He was given two weeks to vacate the property. However, the owner later called him and asked him to secure another apartment.

Okeowo informed the man that he needed some money before vacating the place. The man asked him to send his account number so that he could send the money to him. He was expecting the money when the incident happened. Now that her husband is dead, Titilayo does not know how she is going to take care of their seven children.

The case has been reported to the police, and an investigation is ongoing. The deceased’s body has been deposited in the morgue. The tragic incident has left the community and his loved ones devastated.
