News of Olokoobi’s untimely death surfaced on social media on Monday when a Twitter user, claiming to have been at the scene, tweeted about the harrowing incident. “The woman in the viral ‘Mummy Calm down’ video has just ended her life here in Benin,” the tweet read, revealing that Olokoobi had not shared her troubles with anyone and left behind three children, including the “Mummy Calm Down” boy.
A local resident corroborated this tragic news, stating that Olokoobi took her life in the presence of her one-year-old son. According to the resident, Olokoobi worked as a medicine distributor, while her husband was employed as a taxi driver and car dealer.
In response to this devastating event, the Edo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed to BBC Pidgin that the police had arrested and detained Olokoobi’s husband for interrogation. “He discovered his wife in their home, hanging by a rope. He immediately alerted the neighbors, who accompanied him to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead,” Nwabuzor explained.
Nwabuzor further stated that the deceased’s body had been taken to the mortuary, and her husband remained in police custody, awaiting transfer to the State CID for a more detailed investigation.
The family, particularly the young boy Oreofeoluwa Lawal-Babalola, gained notoriety in 2020 when their video went viral.
