Newborn Baby Girl Dumped In Waste Bin Rescued In Port Harcourt Rivers State
In Rivers State, a newborn baby girl has been rescued after being dumped in a waste receptacle by unknown individuals along with her placenta.
The baby was discovered by vigilantes led by Godstime Ihunwo, Chief Security Officer of the Nkpolu Oroworukwo Community in Mile 3, Diobu Vigilante, in the wee hours of Friday.
Ihunwo reported that while on routine patrol around 3am, he found the baby, who was less than 6 hours old, wrapped in clothes along with the placenta.
He promptly rescued the child and called for urgent medical attention from a female nurse, who determined that the baby was a female. Ihunwo then called Prince Wiro, a human rights activist, who joined him in making a formal entry at the Nkpolu Police Station.
Wiro urged young women who give birth to unwanted babies to seek help from relevant government agencies or civil society groups instead of abandoning them.
Meanwhile, Ihunwo appealed to the Rivers State Government to ensure that the street lights along Ikwerre Road are always on at night, as they have been discovered to be switched off on some nights.
