Family Demands Justice and Transparency Over Daughter’s Mysterious Death on Egypt Air Flight to London

Nigerian Student Dies Mysteriously On Egypt Air Flight In Cairo, Family Demands Justice

Lagos, Nigeria — In an ordeal that has left the family devastated and searching for answers, Meshioye Remilekun Toyosi, a Nigerian student, tragically lost her life during a flight from Lagos to London via Egypt Air. The family is now grappling with a myriad of unanswered questions and facing bureaucratic roadblocks in their quest to repatriate her remains to her homeland, Nigeria.

The calamitous journey began on Monday, September 4th, when Remilekun, full of hopes and dreams, boarded an Egypt Air flight at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Her ultimate destination was London, a city where she hoped to further her education and broaden her horizons.

Mrs. Olufunmilola Olaniyi-Alabi, the elder sister of the deceased, painstakingly narrated the ordeal the family has gone through in the quest for information. “We have been calling Egypt Air’s customer service and every contact point they have listed on their website since Wednesday, but our calls have fallen on deaf ears,” she lamented.

There was a brief glimmer of hope when a male voice answered a call placed to Egypt Air’s Regional Office in London. However, the hope was short-lived, as the unidentified man claimed ignorance about the incident, stating that the London office had no information to share. This brought further agony to the family.

“Feeling defeated, we reached out to the travel agent who sold her the ticket,” Mrs. Olaniyi-Alabi continued. “The agent gave us shocking news — Remilekun never boarded the connecting flight to Heathrow from Cairo. That was the tipping point, prompting us to ramp up our efforts to communicate with Egypt Air.”

The plot took another turn on Thursday afternoon when the family finally received a call from the Regional Manager at the London office of Egypt Air. The manager confirmed that Remilekun had fallen sick during the flight and was rushed to a hospital in Cairo upon landing, where she eventually lost her life.

Despite this tragic confirmation, Mrs. Olaniyi-Alabi expressed frustration at the lack of details surrounding her sister’s death. “We expected Egypt Air to have the decency to contact us directly and provide us with full information. Yet, even the Nigerian Embassy had only a scant account of the event.”

Mr. Saliu Agraza, a Nigerian consular officer, confirmed that Egypt Air had informed them of Remilekun’s death but had not provided any further details. He stated that only the Nigerian Ambassador could formally request additional information, including CCTV footage of the events on the plane and at the airport.

The family is outraged and suspects that Egypt Air is withholding information to dodge responsibility. “We demand the immediate return of Remilekun’s body and all her belongings. Egypt Air should shoulder all the costs involved,” said Mrs. Olaniyi-Alabi.

A source within Egypt Air, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Remilekun was indeed on the flight. The source admitted that she was rushed to a hospital in Cairo and that the airline had acted as her surety.

As the family copes with their enormous loss, they are issuing a plea to the Federal Government, particularly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to intervene. “We want the government to help shed light on the mysteries surrounding her death and support us in the challenging process of repatriating her remains to Nigeria,” they said.

Calls made to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority were not responded to at the time of this report. However, the grieving family vows to continue seeking justice for Remilekun, whose dreams were cut short in the most tragic of circumstances.
