Sept 12, 2014 – Picture: Sick Liberian Lady Commits Suicide By Hanging Over Ebola Stigma In Lagos Nigeria

Pictured above is the lifeless body of a Liberian lady who allegedly took her own life today in Magodo area of Lagos after she was stigmatized by concerned Lagosians following the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.

The lady identified as Kate was found dangling from a tree on Bankole street in Isheri Oke in the wee hours of Friday.

Sources say Kate worked at a pure water factory in the area and lost her job when the Ebola virus disease hits Lagos. Since then people have started distancing themselves from her even her close friends parted with her.

In the process, she became gravely ill due to lack of shelter and adequate nutrition.

She ended up killing herself today.

This is what a resident of the area told Punch NG:

“We see her in this neighbourhood every day. I used to see her every day in the dress she died in.She always looked sick but people stopped selling to her after the Ebola outbreak. It could be because she was Liberian and looked sickly. This might have frustrated her.”

What happened to others around when she was tying herself to that tree, hope this is not an assisted suicide.

Please our people should stop this stigmatization of a thing.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.

Quite pathetic! Just to prove to you that this ebola virus emaneted from the devil’s kitchen. It is a sin when you know a good thing and not do it. Why should people no more passionate with helping the poor? Poeple rush to where accident occured, instead of helping the the victims, they will automaticaly turn to jounalists; videoing, even with Nokia torches just to blab on social network. What matters is not how much times you pray or attend churches or mosque. Faith without good work is like body without spirit – dead. She was deprived of love not because she had contracted the virus but because she is a Liberian and she looked skinny. My sister, may God grant you eternal rest, amen. From researches, no one can commit suicide unless the person felt not loved. Good words, care or charity deeds can make you save life. God bless Nigeria!!!

Stigmatizing someone is a sin in itself. This is a woman who they know has been living amongst them for years. That ebola came to Nigeria from Liberia does not mean this Liberian woman is the carrier. The conscience of those who led this woman to commit suicide will judge them. I don’t know how they can go to bed and sleep easy without thinking of what they caused.

For God sake this is absolute wickedness at the highest order. These people are murderers both in the sight of man and our creator Jesus christ. The punishments for this stigmatization await them.
