Deadly Shooting at Ahiara Junction: Imo State Confronts Another Incident of Violence

In a distressing development in Imo State, two policemen and an innocent bystander were fatally shot at Ahiara Junction in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area. This incident took place during a routine visit by the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, to his officers in the Mbaise area.

According to reports, the assault occurred unexpectedly upon the Commissioner’s arrival when the attackers, targeting the uniformed policemen, opened fire. The attack resulted in the immediate death of two policemen, while a stray bullet tragically struck and killed a passerby.

A local source described the scene: “Upon their arrival, the assailants fired directly at the policemen, causing instant fatalities. In this chaotic situation, a stray bullet hit a nearby civilian, leading to his untimely death. The shocking footage of the victims’ lifeless bodies has been circulating online, casting a pall over the community.”

The police spokesperson for the state, Henry Okoye, informed that the police command has launched an extensive manhunt for the perpetrators who fled the scene. “We are actively investigating and searching for evidence that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous act at Ahiara Junction,” said Okoye.

This recent act of violence adds to a series of disturbing incidents in the region. Just days prior, the community was shaken by the discovery of the lifeless body of Eze Joe Ochulor, the traditional ruler of the Otulu autonomous community in the neighboring Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA. The monarch’s body was found by the roadside in the Aboh Mbaise LGA, following his abduction from his palace earlier that day.

Additionally, the region recently mourned the assassination of Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze ward of Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA. Anyanwu was brutally murdered in front of his wife, further intensifying the climate of fear and insecurity in the area.

These incidents underscore a growing concern for public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in Imo State. The police force, under the leadership of Commissioner Aboki Danjuma and in collaboration with the Joint Task Force, is faced with the daunting task of restoring order and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
