IBADAN— ACTION Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the South West, has described the appointment of an Acting President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Dalhatu Adamu, by President Goodluck Jonathan as “presidential recklessness.”
Through its Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Afolabi, the party argued that since the case was pending in court, President Jonathan should have exercised caution and allowed the Rule of Law to reign.
According to the party, the fact that Justice Salami had gone to court to challenge the suspension, ought to give President Jonathan good standpoint to view the sensitive and delicate matter and make wide consultations before taking a leap.
It contended that the hasty appointment of Justice Adamu in utter disregard to a pending court case, was not only a travesty of justice, but exposed the true nature of the president.
The party said: “Without any doubt, this action is in tune with the thinking of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, which had earlier called for the retirement of the embattled Justice Salami. In the scenario presented by this case, the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Katsina-Alu, who by virtue of his position as the chairman of NJC, is the accuser, the prosecutor and the judge in his own case. It has been a major test case at the apex of the nation’s judiciary and the returned verdict, in one voice, is failure.”
It warned that President Jonathan as the final arbiter in this matter, needed caution, which he allegedly threw to the winds.(Vanguard)
