Cement Truck Crashes, Kills 2 On Lagos Abeokuta Expressway

A tragic accident has claimed the lives of three individuals while two others were left injured following a fatal road accident that occurred at the Toll-Gate area on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The accident, which happened on Tuesday evening, involved six persons, two vehicles, and two motorcycles. According to the Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Ahmed Umar, the truck conveying bags of cement was inbound Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway when it lost control due to brake failure and rammed into two vehicles and two bajaj motorcycles. Those who lost their lives in the incident were either traders or commuters waiting for buses.

The tragic accident has once again highlighted the dangers of excessive speeding and the importance of ensuring that vehicles are in good condition before putting them on the roads to prevent avoidable crashes.

Mr Ahmed Umar, while speaking about the accident, blamed the cause of the accident on excessive speeding, urging motorists to always desist from it. He also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are regularly maintained and in good condition before embarking on journeys.

The incident has left the affected families and the entire community in a state of mourning as they come to terms with the loss of their loved ones. It is a reminder to all road users of the need to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations while on the road, as reckless driving and over-speeding can result in fatal accidents.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has continued to play a significant role in ensuring road safety in Nigeria, and they have advised all road users to be cautious and report any vehicle they suspect to be in bad condition to the appropriate authorities.

It is crucial for all road users to comply with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road accidents that could lead to the loss of lives and property.
