3 Reasons University Is Just Another Scam

If I had not said this someone would have said it also.

While growing up, we have been taught that we need to go to university to succeed in life, we have been told to go to school, get a good job and get married.

This has been the accepted rule of life that we have been taught to live by.

Any violation is a social crime.

I have come to realize that University is just another scam we do not know. Please put in mind that, I have not written this post to discourage you from going to university.

Most people see university as education and graduates; the educated ones, which is totally WRONG.

I am not trying to sound funny (though it part of it), But I am trying to share with you lessons I learnt studying some graduates in Nigeria.

3 Reasons University is just another scam

  1. What You Taught in University is 10% of Education

This is the truth of the matter, what you are taught in university is only 10% of education. This  is what you need to wake up to, what makes you educated is what you learn outside school which is self-education.

Self-education is 90% of education and it is what we neglect the most.

  1. University Train Employees Not Employers.

This is a bitter truth. If you ask some students their plans after school, 80% of them plan to get a good job and plan their lives. This is not their fault. It is a system they have been made to adapt to. So they have limited to what they have been taught.

The society at large believes in these four rules:

  1. Go to school
  2. Get a good grade
  3. Get a good job
  4. Settle down.

Could this be true?

This is why, Robert Kiyosaki, Author of Rich Dad; poor Dad made the conclusion that university train employees not employers.

If this is being looked into, you will find out that both employees and employers are educated but in different things.

An employer as his mind programmed differently through the things he his exposed especially the self-education he gives himself which also includes the books he reads.

The saying: You are what you eat, is very true as you are what you read.

University Teach Theory but Life is Practical.

  1. You May Never Need What You Are Taught in the University.

Shocked? Well this is true in most cases. All what you are taught in school may never be useful.

I said something earlier that University teaches theory BUT Life is practical

And these are two different things.

How to Make the Most Out of University

I should not be writing this here, because I’m nailing myself. I am writing this to let you know how you make the most out of University.

  1. Learn How To Deal With Failure

You have heard this a lot. Failure is not a crime and failure is not pessimistic but it is reality. Failure is not the problem you have, but how you respond to failure.

Many times in University I have come across students who believe the best way to avoid failure is to engage in mal practise.

Do you have this kind of mind-set or you see failure as the end of life?

Remember that you have not failed because you failed a course or courses but you have only failed if you see it as the end of life.

Failure is never written on your face, why not keep trying.

It is not a crime to fail.

Many great men and women have failed times without number, so why should you see failure as death.

In life, a lot of people who fear to fail, end up leading a bad life or even committing suicide.

Why should Suicide be an option?

The numbers of people committing suicide daily is on the high side, and now has the world stopped because of their death?

If you graduate with a bad grade from University that does not mean you cannot be successful.

Turn your failure into success. To me success is not about having the best grade or being one of the richest, it is just about making IMPACT.

  1. Learn How To Read

While in University, I imbibed the spirit of reading (I am talking about reading books a lot).

While in school you should not learn how to read your school books only, learn how to read other books especially self-development books.

In University after reading my school books, I would always make out time to read self-development books.

After graduating from university, there is no lecturer to set test for you but there is always the test of life which is majorly how you deal with failure.

So you need to continue the habit of reading.

What I read

I read my Bible on a daily basis, read self-development books and Christian books.

Reading has helped developed a better understanding of how to relate with people.

This is the third way to make the best of University.

  1. Networking

The way you socialize matters a lot and university is a training ground to develop this habit. While in university I was able to learn how to build relationships, socialize and interact with people.

There is a saying that your Network is Your Net worth.

Learn to make the best use of University.

CONCLUSION

I am never against going to school, but many people do not know what they really want so end up not getting what they want.

Many graduates have no knowledge of what it entails in succeeding in life.

I have written this guide to help you get the best of university.

So what are your Thoughts on this?

What would have been the best title for this post?

Keep the comments rolling in.

Acceleration of tech asseen is obsolescence which renders academic degrees less important..it depends on how much u want to revered in the society or if u wanted to reasearch in your field of your choice to make a well meaning breakthrough in your domain.other than that,it can be overhyped but may not be under rated.

      Hi, Iron bar,
Thanks for leaving a thoughtful comment.
Technology is on the fast rise and Nigeria is not yet investing in that sector.
Many Undergraduates are unemployed because they are not equipped with the right education.
The truth is there are a large number of unemployed Doctors.
And it baffles why the excuse of getting a degree is to get a better job.
Thanks for taking your time to leave a comment.
