The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Tuesday, arraigned a middle aged woman, Chinyelu Uchendu before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for attempting to unlawfully export a 1.8 kilogram of heroine to Spain. naijagists.com

The accused was alleged to have on December 3, 2011 attempted to illegally export the banned substance to Madrid, Spain through the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.

The accused pleaded not guilty to thea one count charge against her. Her counsel prayed the court to admit her to bail on compassionate ground. The prosecution opposed the bail.

In his ruling, trial judge, Justice John Tsoho, said the prosecution failed to provide enough material that will necessitate the denial of bail to the accused person.

The court admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N2 million with a surety in like sum.

The surety, according to the court, must have a landed property within Lagos metropolis and be willing to surrender the documents of the property to the NDLEA for verification.

The surety is also to show evidence of tax payment by providing three years tax clearance as well as to submit two recent passport size photograph to the court for record keeping.

The accused was ordered to be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, pending the perfection of her bail conditions, while further hearing in the case was adjourned till June 5, 2012. (culled from vanguardngr)
