Woman Bleeds To Death After Giving Birth At Faith Hills Specialist Hospital In Egbeda Lagos

In a tragic turn of events, a man named Jeremiah Akinsetemi has made serious allegations against the management and medical staff at Faith-Hills Specialist Hospital in the Egbeda area of Lagos State, following the death of his wife, Rachael, who had delivered a baby at the hospital.

According to Akinsetemi, his wife began to bleed after giving birth, and the hospital only had one pint of blood to transfuse, which proved insufficient. He further claimed that the hospital was unable to provide more blood as they didn’t have a blood bank. This negligence, he alleged, led to the death of his wife.

In response to these allegations, Dr. Lilian Obianuju, the Managing Director of Faith-Hills Specialist Hospital, has spoken out, revealing that Rachael had presented to the hospital with a reduction in fetal movement. She stated that despite informing the couple that a Caesarean Section was necessary to bring out the baby and save Rachael’s life, they declined and left the hospital on February 10th. It was only after eight weeks that they returned to the hospital.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Rachael’s death and the accusations levelled against Faith-Hills Specialist Hospital are a sombre reminder of the importance of ensuring adequate medical care during childbirth. This is particularly true in developing countries like Nigeria, where maternal mortality rates remain high due to inadequate healthcare infrastructure and poor access to healthcare services.

It is critical that hospitals and medical practitioners take every necessary step to ensure the safety and well-being of their patients, particularly in cases where complications arise during childbirth. This includes providing adequate blood supply, maintaining a well-equipped blood bank, and having the necessary medical expertise to perform life-saving procedures like a Caesarean Section.

The death of Rachael is a tragic loss that should serve as a wakeup call to the Nigerian healthcare system to prioritize maternal and infant health, and to ensure that hospitals and medical practitioners are held accountable for any negligence or malpractice that results in avoidable deaths.
