Woman Commits Suicide With Toxic Insecticide In Lagos

In a somber development, the Lagos State Police Command has announced the tragic passing of a 39-year-old woman, identified as Lilian Nwarache, who reportedly succumbed to the pressures of a prolonged illness by consuming a toxic insecticide in the Iwaya district of Lagos.

According to reports, on the 3rd of November 2023, Ms. Nwarache, grappling with the relentless torment of her illness, sought divine intervention at a local church. Despite her spiritual quests, the weight of her condition left her disillusioned, driving her to ingest an entire bottle of a well-known insecticide brand in a bid to end her suffering.

Following her ingestion of the poison, distressed onlookers reported that Ms. Nwarache, overwhelmed by despair, attempted to throw herself into a nearby canal. Fortunately, vigilant bystanders intervened, thwarting her further attempt at self-harm. She was promptly conveyed to the Iwaya health center, where her life could not be salvaged. A doctor on duty at the center confirmed her demise upon arrival.

The heartrending news was corroborated by the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed that the incident was brought to the notice of the Sabo police station that Friday, around 2 pm. Mr. Hundeyin detailed that in her possession were three passports and a Samsung mobile phone, items that were found within her handbag at the scene of the incident.

The police’s immediate response included dispatching detectives to the scene, documenting the area with photographs, and recovering the bottle of insecticide that contained a residual amount of the lethal substance. Mr. Hundeyin expressed that efforts were being directed to establish contact with Ms. Nwarache’s family to inform them of the unfortunate event.

The police have transported Ms. Nwarache’s body to the Lagos Mainland Hospital Mortuary, where it will undergo preservation and an autopsy to confirm the cause of death officially. The investigation continues as authorities aim to piece together the events leading up to this tragic end and to provide closure for her bereaved family.

Mr. Hundeyin concluded by affirming the police’s commitment to the ongoing preliminary investigation and their determination to unravel the circumstances surrounding Ms. Nwarache’s untimely departure. The community remains in shock as they mourn the loss of a life to the unseen battles against enduring illness and the resultant despair that can lead to such devastating outcomes.
