Jim Ovia’s Book, Africa Rise and Shine and the changing African narrative

Almost two decades ago, Africa was tagged the “Hopeless Continent” in the May 2000 issue of The Economist. Hitherto, the continent was portrayed as ravaged by wars and coups, poverty and famine. It was a general negative narrative of Africa in the media.

However, a decade later from this time, the paradigm began to change. The world began to see the bright future of Africa. To this effect, The Economist went on to categorically reverse its position in a new cover story for its 2011 issue called “Africa Rising”. The story revealed that Africa had never been hopeless.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg TV, the Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia explained that this perception of Africa from a hopeless continent to a continent now rising inspired the title of his book, Africa Rise and Shine.

@ MaryF before you can say anything about opposing an allegation in this forum please try to get your fact straight. Besides, I think you’re one of the beneficiaries to the last administration otherwise you wouldn’t be supporting a rogue like Fayose. Let me tell you something it Buhari wants to deal with this guy based on selective prosecution he could have done that long ago. The EFCC is investigating Dasuki Gate and found the traces of that money in Fayose account. In any where in the world if FBI, Interpol or Secret Service discovered that some illegal money has been deposited into your personal account, they have every right to freeze your account. Forget about politics or PDP/APC. The EFCC is doing its job and we should leave them alone. Let him prove his them how he got that money in his single account. We have tired of few people keeping the money that meant for the populace converting them for their own use. People are suffering out there because our leaders fail in their responsibilities. We need proper accountability if we want to see things running smoothly again.

-Supported by ***** (13 SANS defends a certificate, now EFCC defends a thief).
Ibrahim and the EFCC now defends a thief instead of prosecuting a thief. Just like Buhari’s certificate was shabbily done with another name Mohammed; The EFCC have also done another stupid gaffe. First as Ena Ofugarapointed out, no ears in the passport, and how can you bring an international passport that was issued in 2012 to defend a fraud case that happened in 2007???? Okay where is the lady since you have her passport???
But let me add, her surname (Buhari)✔ her given name (Aisha) ✔but what the hell is this??? Her other name is Mohammedu❌❌❌❌❌❌❌???? I’m sure it is Tinibu doing this fake certificates just to expose Buhari and his government. ‪#‎ TorontoWay‬
This is how low we have gotten, where an anti-graft agency stands with Buhari and therefore stands against Buhari’s enemies. Just last week it was 13 SANS defending a WAEC certificate, today is Ibrahim and the EFCC defending a thief. Civility and decorum has been thrown out of the doors of CHANGE.
Okay let’s don’t argue, Aisha Buhari go to America tomorrow, I will sponsor the trip. Dazzol!….. THIEVES
    ‪#‎ Still‬on Jesus is Lord.

APC supporters if this administration is so beneficial to you I praise GOD on your behalf, but pls step into the street and reach out to those who can barely feed at least once in a day, and minimize your mouth support on an unsympathetic president with it cruel administration.

Fayose de mess up sometimes, no be lie. What would shouting have done for him? But EFCC has gone against the constituted norms of democracy by freezing the account of an exercutive governor. Buhari should have at least tried to oust him from the seat before all these. This man Buhari is merely a fuming, vindictive aggressor who does not welcome any opposition. Left to him, he would do what Robert Mugabe did to his enemies which is why he is still president till today, every other person being too afraid to voice out opposition.
