Dec 20, 2014 – Evil Housemaids Go On Killing Spree In Lagos Nigeria, 2 Women Beheaded Weeks Apart
The murder of leading insurance practitioner and lawyer, Mrs. Ola Adeola, who was found dead with her throat slit at Oniru Estate, Lagos on December 14, 2014 has forced the police in the state to step up neighbourhood surveillance.
Adeola is the second victim in two weeks to be found murdered in a gruesome manner in the state.
The first victim was Mrs. Martha Ifewulu, who was murdered at her Oke-Afa, Isolo residence in Lagos on December 1.
Ifewulu’s children found her corpse on a staircase within the house with her throat slit, prompting rumours that she might have been specifically targeted since nothing was stolen from the house.
Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, told Saturday PUNCH that the developments coupled with the approach of a festive season, had necessitated more surveillance in residential neighbourhoods in the state.
He, however, insisted that violent crimes were not on the increase in Lagos.
Nwosu said, “In the case of the victim at Oniru (Adeola), we have arrested two people in connection with the incident but I cannot reveal details about that yet so as not to jeopardise our investigation.
“We have had to reassess our security planning. You must also note that this is a festive season. These incidents are unfortunate. We have taken steps to increase surveillance in many neighbourhoods.”
Nwosu advised residents to challenge strangers coming into their neighbourhoods so as to assist police officers in their intelligence gathering efforts.
