March 14, 2016 – Family Member Shares Photos Of Ibinabo Fiberesima Eating Eba & Okro Soup, Writes Touching Tribute

Article by Gbenga Sogbetun on Ibinabo’s jail term.

It’s interesting they way people have responded to the recent ongoings with Ibinabo Fiberesima.

Ib Fiberesima is my cousin, first cousins actually. When I first read in the news about a month ago that Lagos state was revisiting the case of her involvement in the accident I was a bit surprised, I got in touch with her and she told me to keep her in my prayers. Same also went for another court case about a girl who won a beauty pageant she organized.

Now what is of interest to me is the negative comments she has received concerning the new judgement. My prayer for us all is that we do not end up in situations that we have very little control over, and also that we do not end up on the wrong side of the law. The aim of this post is to hopefully enlighten those who would like to listen to know the Ibinabo that I know. Ever since I can remember, Ib has been a go-getter.

Nothing stands in her way, nothing is impossible, and she speaks her mind. She is very hard working. I have had the opportunity to spend many a night at her place in Lagos and Port Harcourt. Ibinabo comes home most times after 10 p.m, stays up till about 1a.m, still working, and is up by 6 a.m to go out to work again.

The haters might ask “what sort of work does she do”? Wells she owns and manages AMC productions, has for the past few years been the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, an organisation she has helped transform, and thirdly she is always caring to people’s needs. Ibinabo is one of the most generous people I know.

She goes out of her way to help people to the point where people keep on taking advantage of her but that has not deterred her from helping yet still. The ibinabo most people know is not just the pictures she posts on her social media platform, she is also like you and I.

She cries, she laughs, she gets sad, she falls sick, she gets angry, she has a bad,….. basically the same things we all go through only that like most other people none of it was handed to her on a platter of gold. She worked for it. It’s a pity that she has to be the one who is going through this harrowing experience once again.

God will be with you and I will keep on putting you in my prayers. o by the way, these are some pictures I took of her about 2 years ago in her house eating eba and Okro soup, just like all of us do.

Most people are jumping on the band wagon waving this DUI flag. Has anybody actually read the transcript of the case or the first judgement? Please give this woman a break I beg.

What is this write up has to do with the law or the deceased family. Mind you people in the prison are like Ibinabo . And please keep your private affairs off bloggers . So many people have been to prison and back and Ibinabo will not been an exception. It is only Going to make her better person . Please let respect the deceased family . You lots family are the one infruriating public with your arrogant write up . All you need to do for her is to encourage her . Ok.

    …Theses are my salient and pertinent questions in this unfortunate scenario;

(1.)Was Ibinabo behind the wheels of the vehicle that killed Dr GIWA Suraj?

(2.) Did Ibinabo kill Dr GIWA Suraj?

(3.) Was this unfortunate incident an accident or an act of recklessness on the part of Ibinabo?

(4.)Could this incident be thus termed; as willfull negligence or Willfull Intent on the part of Ibinabo due to her reckless driving ?-Because according Sean(Ibinabo’s son)-Sean stated in one of the articles I read ;that his mother was charged for “RECKLESS & DANGEROUS DRIVING”…

Now the point I’m trying to make here, is to allow people to ask themselves this same questions… In order to have a vivid insight of this unfortunate incident.

..,As for the picture of Ibinabo eating eba…my question is this; of what relevance is a picture of someone eating eba?..if the person is responsible for the death of a fellow human being?

I’m sure the widow and children of Dr GIWA Suraj eat eba, every day -but they are not running to the social media to show the pictures of their daily struggle.

Please Ibinabo,my advice is for you to respect the law, respect the judgement of the court, accept your fate and reconcile with the family of the victim by offering support to the chlidren of the victim after serving your jail term.

It eludes my reasoning when I try to understand what is it with all these sympathy letter campaign from Ibinabo’s quarters. They have obviously played down the relevance of the life that was lost. Maybe it is time for a member of that late doctor’s family to write their own account that the whole world might equally know that the doctor who died was as ordinary as you and I and swallowed eba and probably even soaked garri in water to drink. They should write to let Nigerians know how difficult it had been for them to cope because of their father’s irreplaceable absence, and how painfully sad they had felt each time they learnt of the killer travelling around the globe and sharing happy mood pictures all over the social media.

I can see that even half a thought is not spared for the bereaved family by Ibinabo’s people. And if I were the judge that slammed this sentence on IB, I would be deeply regretting by now, for I could have just made it 10 years.

What happened to the victim and Ibionabo is a very terrible thing.. Especially for the victim’s family.. But let’s not forget that all this Hate comments will not change anything. And this would have happened to any of us.. And I’m pretty sure that some of you that keep hitting her with all this hate comments have sinned and even killed someone too not only by car accident.. But With your poisonous tongues/witch doctors… And had been behind the sterring while drunk.. Like Dave D said.. The legal alcohol limit was not stated.. Now to all of you that was saying that this will be a lesson to everyone.. So why can’t the Nigerian Government put the legal alcholo limit and enforce it also educate drivers and the public road user about it.. Now knowing what her blood alcohol limit was will also be a lesson to the public too. On the other hand, her car would have been faulty too., this would have caused the accident on that very day,,
My take on this, is that it would be good to know all this too, let me ask this question? How Nigerians takes their cars for servicing every 6 months? to check if is there’s any defeats on the car or the current condition..
Alcohol, faulty car and bad road is what causes lots of accident in our road..
Finally, I’m not here to support Ibinabo. But let’s also look at all this areas too..
My heart goes out to the victim’s family and to Ibinabo because once take someone’s life, that’s also a life time jail..
Also in the last ten years I’m very sure that lots of people have dead on our roads through alcohol and illegal drugs users drivers and some of ya didn’t know about it, but because Ibinabo is a public eyes person, that’s why her’s is making headlines..
So my people.. Tell the Nigerian government in ENFORCE drink and drive, fix the bad road, and make every car in Nigeria to do compulsory check every 12 months..

The loss that the death of Dr. Giwa has caused the family and the Nation as a whole is seven time more painful than the five years jail term Ib will serve for her careless offence.

We are talking about a qualify Doc here. @ writer, do you know long it took the Doc to graduate from the University to become a Doc? Do you know how many lives he has been able to save? Do you know how many more lives he would have still save if he were to be alive?

Who is Ibinabo by the way? Whats she really contributing to the welfare of the country compare to the late Doc Giwa?
She‘s even lucky to be given just five years, in advanced country it could have been 20yrs behind bars.
Enough of all the rubbish let us have some peace because of one Ibinabo like that. Haba!

    I gat to…

i just cant understand what the fuss is all about. Whats the big deal about going to jail for DUI. It happens all over the world. People have gone jail for longer terms. I guess the fuss is because it happened in Nigeria. We are not use to jailing the rich and famous. The point is she committed a crime’ probabaly not intentional. She has to take responsibility for her actions. A man is dead’ A family has lost their breadwinner. Politicians’ celebrities’and footballers in UK and USA have all Obediently served jail sentences. Can we all move on. With good behavior she could be granted an early release. I wish her well.

Where is the tribute written on behave of the deceased-Dr.Giwa, his widow, and those fatherless children? The fact is that she can still continue to enjoy her favorite eba and okro soup even in prison but the doctor is six feet down the soil for almost ten years of injustice and abuse of power. The most important point here is that nobody should be too big, too rich, highly influential, and very famous to invade our justice system. She killed an innocent doctor under the influence of alcohol about ten years; the families, parent, and friends of Dr. Giwa have waited for ten years before she got the punishment that is not measurable to her man slaughter under influence case. nobody is above the law.

  24. We all deserved a second a chance

    March 15, 2016 at 10:07 AM

Yes Omokehinda no body is above the law.. And really I feel for the victim’s family.. But then do you have the alcohol level,in her blood.. whats the legal acholo blood limti for nigerians for drivers? to prove that she was under the influence
? Have you also for once thought if her car had some mechanical faulty that might have cause the accident? The way I see it., Nigeria justice is crap!! Because in orher developed countries they will do very good invegationn.. Imcukdimg car crash unit invegation department will do a probare check on her car to see if there’s any fault on the car,
Then they will provide all this evidence including the amount of alcohol in the blood on the very day the accident happened..
Just pary that you don’t do something will you get into Nigerian court.. You will be be thrown into jail without a probare invegationn lol.
