Here is an official press statement by General Muhammad Buhari on the suicide bomb blast that rocked Kaduna yesterday.
He described the incident as an assassination attempt on his life.
In his own words:
“I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today along Ali Akilu Road, Kawo – Kaduna about 2:30pm on my way to Daura.
The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car but was blocked by my escort vehicle. We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly denoted the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy. Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle I saw many dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder.
Thank God for His mercy, I came out unhurt but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries – they have been treated in hospital and discharged.

I just came in2 Kaduna yesterday 4rm Lagos & that incidence happen before I got 2 d scene, base on what happen I think 2 people were d target GMB & Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi an islamic cleric. I wonder what we are going through in Nigeria & yet people still use sentiment 2 give d present administration credit. BH don’t know whether u are Muslim,Christian,Northerner or Southerner Nigerians we need 2 unite

General Buhari was first to threw the shot at Nigerians. He ignited the level of insurgency in the country with his utterances after he lost out in the 2011 general election in which president Jonathan emerged the winner.
Little did Buhari knew that the country will be plunged into a horrible and terrible descent. This events unfolded its ugly head just like an already planned and orchestrated Hollywood movie.
Whether general Buhari will in good faith admit this fact or not is never the solution to this ugly trend.
The real issues here is what the general populace with regards to the common man understands as the genesis of this crises.
Moreover many innocent common citizens have lost there dear lives without genuine outcry from the elites. Some of the dead even received a mass burial and no elite has called for compensation to the families of those that died or to those that have been rendered permanently incapacitated.
Yesterday general Buhari himself miraculously survived a similar event of bomb blast cum assassination attempt, hence a lot of outcry was elicited by the public, both the common man and the elites.
However, majority of the common masses whom you presumed to be fighting to lord your self over did not know that the same fearless man could be driving around in an armoured vehicles.
This shows that Buhari had already fortified himself from any possible foreseen tragedy whether orchestrated or otherwise.
A fearless man fears no death nor man but only God Almighty
A courageous will always confronts the oppressor not because of his might
A truthful man fears no lies against himself because he knows that truth will always prevail.
Many Nigerians have always seen you as a gallant soldier because of the fear you instilled in our heart during your military rule with general Idiagbon.
How will people feel when they find out that either you or an accomplice has hands in some of these cacophony of events.
Nigerian politic has now become a rotten/soured grape and I wonder what will possible sweeten it’s taste.
Moreover there is a wide division of opinions based on the current political and social orientations which the elites have succeeded to inject in the lives of the young ones in the country.
This wide rage anger could be mostly found within ethnic and religious divides, and our people are now being polarised within these two.
How can we sit and determine when these hatred will be subdued. The elites should please come up with the solution because they are the very ones that plunged Nigeria into its present predicament and dungeon.
Yesterday, the present emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi finally paid a courtesy call to the president Jonathan at the Aso Rock but prior to that visit there had been a massive face off between the two based on earlier allegation which was unfounded.
Like an adage, it is very hard to build but so easy to destroy.
I will give kudos to the emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido for taking that big stride to untangle the knot blocking the slide through the rope.
it is high time to retrace the steps you all made to get to this destination.
Seek for peace and not war.
Seek for relevant solutions and not trading blames
Seek for end to insurgency because I wonder whom you will govern if the Boko Haram succeeds in wiping out the people that will receive the dividend of that authority.
It is never too late to restart the journey but I wonder what will be playing up in your mind.
If I accept responsibility people will see me as a liar
If I accept responsibility people will see me as weak
if I accept responsibility people will no longer believe in me
if I accept responsibility people will not vote for me in next elections.
All these and many more will pre-occupy your mind but in the real sense what impact will that make.
This should be a very big lesson to all.
This is the road to freedom.
