You are a product of your thoughts. No one grows above his thought. No organization or nation grows beyond the thought pattern of the leaders. Both negative and positive thoughts are two possibilities. Anyone with a negative thought can also engage in positive meditation. The principle of changing negative thoughts is just changing your thinking gear.

It is your area of focus that shows whether or not your thought is positive or negative. A negative thought is simply focusing on things of less importance, pass failure or assuming bad future occurrence.

In all, negative thoughts make you live below your capacity and deprive you of the best of life. There is a way unhealthy thought saps your energy and makes you less productive. At the end of the day, it breaks down your health and makes you less important to yourself and others.

Usually, those dominated by bad thoughts assume bad results from every situation. This makes them fret and agitated with the attendance of mistakes and failure.

No one is immune against negative thoughts without a conscious determination to have a clean heart. What happens to you is not as important as your reaction to it. Thus, a negative thought is concentrating on what is not instead of appreciating what it is. Those who are with a negative thought are pessimistic. They focus on failure than success. Usually, their vision of a better tomorrow is blurred.

Irrespective of how negatively biased you are, there is a way out. Incidentally, some of my recommendations are the solution I have used, and it worked wonders. But before you read on, it is not a run-of-the-mill idea. This means it is not a quick fix, but a gradual process.   1. Assume a possible result: In every situation of life, the chances of success are equal to the chances of failure. Instead of thinking the outcome will be negative, while not thinking it will be positive. Since no one sets out to fail, have the belief that you’ll succeed. Believe things will work in your favor. More often than not, when you are pessimistic about a thing, a person or a situation you are liable to take wrong steps and decisions.
  2. See beyond now: Failure is usually a momentary setback. Instead of dwelling and concentrating on the immediate failure, you should look past it onto a better future or a brighter tomorrow. See pass what it is to what it could be. To change negative thoughts, see your failure as a transition experience. Always view failure and challenges as a learning process to better days ahead.
  3. Accept responsibility, but don’t hurt yourself: You have a negative thought because you saw yourself as a failure. Agree you screwed it, but that is a fraction of you. Your current bad shape is not all that there is in your being. Yes, you messed up, it’s true you’ve fumbled, but everyone passed through that stage once and sometimes many times. The only bad side is when you shift blame and responsibility for your failure to someone or something.

To overcome bad thoughts, you must accept the responsibility for the failure, but don’t blame or hurt yourself. The best of men fails. Most successful people on earth are people who had failed severally on their way to success. This means the stars of the champions are in the scars. When you blame yourself, you look worthless and unproductive, but that is not true of your makeup.

  1. Think about your winning edge: Perhaps one way to change negative thoughts is to think about your winning edge. Instead of concentrating your energy and emotions on what you didn’t do right, think about those things you’ve done correctly.

No perfect person on this side of life and if you intend to be one, you’ll die trying. Believe it or not, no one is so bad that he or she has no good part. Also, no one is good that he or she does not have a dark part. In essence, this imperfection of ours is a reminder that we need each other. In other words, that failure of yours is an avenue for someone else to explore, to fulfill his or her calling.

To overcome bad feelings, think and develop your best potentials while you improve on your weak side. Buddy, no one is created to be your exact. Some people could indeed do better than you, but you’re unique with all your flaws. So no one can replace your uniqueness.

  1. Practice thankfulness: To be appreciative of what you have or who you have is a sure antidote to negative thought. To be thankful is to celebrate yourself. It is to acknowledge and value your uniqueness. When you show gratitude you are saying “I am good enough.” If you focus on thankfulness for the little success, you’ll be able to think straight and it increases your chances of doing better. I used to say “if you are not thankful you will not be tankful”. You should be thankful both to God or man. You’ll get more when you are appreciative of the little you have.
  2. Think less about people’s opinions: It’s natural to seek people’s approval on what we do or say. See, the best thing to be in life is to be you. I tell people there is only one me. Trying to please everybody is to displease yourself. Why most people are down with negative thoughts is their assumption of what people will think or say about their actions. Unfortunately, those you are concerned about may not even have such a thought about you. Sometimes you think they rated you low, but in reality, they are celebrating your action. Believe this or not, no matter what you do, people will still complain. Instead of concentrating your thought on people’s opinions, the best you could do is discountenancing their negative appraisal once you’re sure you’ve done your best. Besides that, where possible use their opinion to fine-tune your life and procedure. Don’t let people fix you into their mold.

You can change your negative thoughts if you’re a man-pleaser. The easiest thing to be in life is to be yourself. But the most difficult thing to be is to be like others. If you want to be like others, you’ll end up being the second-best.

  1. Put success in the right perspective: What raises concern in the mind of people most times is the meaning of success. You can’t have a clean thought if you have a misconception of success. Success does not mean the accumulation of things. It does not always mean people’s applause. Success is doing the best within your capacity to influence your world in your little way.

Most time people don’t bother how you achieve success, but, true success must be achieved through the right and legitimate means. The right perspective of success means we get the result at a different level, size, and stages. If you are happy doing what you do, then, you are successful. On the way to success, some will be crawling, some walking, others running and yet we have others flying. The most important thing is you keep moving. If you have this understanding, you’ll not fret at other people’s achievements. This will, in turn, help you not to think less of yourself. When you put success in the right contest, you’ll overcome negative thoughts.

  1. Mistakes are part of life: When negative thoughts overtake your life because of mistakes, you are saying you’re a perfect being. Therefore, to overcome a negative thought and live your life to the fullest, you must accept the mistake as part of life. Failure is telling you how not to do a certain thing. In other words, you learn the right way to do it. Mistakes come because we have inadequate information, distorted reasoning or other situation beyond our capacity. It is not wrong to make a mistake, but; it becomes an issue if you make the same mistake repeatedly. My grandmother will say “if you think you have a kilogram of a problem, move forward and you will see another person with two kilograms of problems.” It simply means errors are synonymous with human beings.
  2. Open the valve: You know what happens when you put on your pump and lock all the valves, an explosion! That is what negative thought will do to your body and life. Instead of getting bottled up with negative thoughts and resentments, release the valve by speaking out. Talk to someone, speak about the issue with your spouse, friends, family, etc. A problem known and discussed is half solved.

Your eyes and your ears are the two gateways to your mind. Whatever gets in your mind through these two channels, will shape your thought pattern. In the natural, if you fed well, you will live well. The emotional currency is information. Thus, if you consume the right information, you’ll have the right thought. Conversely, if you digest that bad information you will have negative thoughts.

Sources of information that will shape your thought include, but not limited to the television, video, internet, cinema, newspaper, magazines, books, journals, audio, etc. Similarly, the gathering, we attend or people we associate with can be the difference between having a positive or negative thought. So, to change a negative thought, think about the company you keep, the environment you go, and the information you access.

  1. Ask the right question: Every negative thought is rooted in asking the wrong question of why? The question of why presupposes you are too wise to make a mistake. To me, that is a degree of pride. To me, the right questions are where, when, what and how. Over the years I have attended to all challenges of life using these right questions. Let me break down each of these questions.

Where- On this issue, where did miss it?

What– What lesson can I learn from this situation?

How– How do I start a fresh page?

When – When do I begin again?

All of those questions when answered correctly will galvanize you to a better beginning. With that, you have no room for negative thought. Instead, it makes you think correctly and make good decisions next time.

The when question deals with what portion in your decision making do you make that mistake? This helps to start with a new method. The question of when addresses the time to restart your journey to success again. Do you start immediately, or after a short break? Answering this question correctly will not only free your mind of negative thoughts but prepare you for a better start and a rewarding adventure

  1. Life is in phases: Those who are addicted to negative thought are people who want to achieve all their goals at a single swipe. They wanted to achieve what others achieve in ten years in a year or two. To them, a shortcut is a smart way. Often they forgot shortcut lead to deep cuts. No wonder they are displeased with themselves and others. When they can’t meet their goal, it distorts their thought. If you want to enjoy life to the full with a positive thought, love your life. Live a portion per time. Learn to climb the ladder of success and achievement a rung at a time.
  2. Take a break:Too many things in the heart lead to unfulfilled dreams and breed negative thoughts. Exploring the principle of vacation or a break and a time of rest will not only offload some of your burdens but elongate your life. The simple trick to having a positive thought might be you leaving your familiar environment to break off from your busy schedule. This moment will delete some burden on your heart. Visit natural sites where you will enjoy the freshness of nature on the mountain, river, forest, etc. The essence of all these exercises is to help dislodge some negative thought so you could reboot for a better performance
  3. Create your inspiration: Intrinsic motivation is the best encouragement for changing negative thoughts. What you see has a great deal of effect on what you become. You could create a personal inspiration by hanging inspirational paintings around your environment. Put pictures and paintings in your room, office, library, dining, kitchen, living room, and restroom. Hang inspiration writings everywhere you can imagine, it will relieve your negative thought.

 

  1. Seek help: Proud people feel they know it all. There is no truth in that. Everyone needs help. Seek help from a professional psychologist or others. At times the person that has the solution to your predicaments is just a few blocks or people from you. They will lead you through the needed stages to relieve you of negative thoughts.

Negative thought begins little and gradually encapsulates the person. It is this negative thought that breeds fear and eventually leads to health complications. Nonetheless, the above workable plans can turn the tide and help you change negative thoughts to a healthy and positive thought. Your thought will either make or mar you. Remember, as a man thinks, so he is.
