May 28, 2016 – Lagos State House Of Assembly Removes Leadership, This Day, Cool FM From Accredited Media Organisations

The Lagos State House of Assembly has served some correspondents covering the House including ThisDay, Cool FM, LEADERSHIP NEWSPAPERS and others the notification of de-accreditation

The letters, which were signed by the Head of Information, Miss Bose Lambo were served to the affected media reporters.

The letter reads, “I am directed to inform you that the leadership of the House has directed the re-organisation and re-engineering of its information machinery.

“Consequently, your media organisation (LEADERSHIP Newspapers, ThisDay, COOL FM has been delisted from accredited media organisations and extension, withdraw your membership of Lagos State House of Assembly Correspondents (LAHACA) forthwith.

“I am to request you to please render all properties belonging to the Lagos State House of Assembly in your possession to the Director, Public affairs”.

Other media houses affected includes: Ray Power, MITV, Cool FM, Newswatch Times, Nigerian Observer, Thisday amongst other.

As the time of filling this story, the House could not give any cogent reasons for sending aways the affected reporters

The correspondents covering the House had earlier been informed by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Segun Abiru few months back that the leadership of the House was planning to reduce the number of the journalists covering House due to financial constraints.

  1. The reason of financial constraints is baseless. Let them find better reason or face the risks of being blacklisted by NUJ.

  3. I think they were like a threat to the speaker and the state house of assembly. May be those newspapers often criticized them that’s why they were sent away. Hope NUJ and their editors should take action on that issue. How will you just sent reporters away without any cogent reasons.
