Mr Bashiru Olamilekan, a 45-year-old man who allegedly refused to pay his son’s N325, 000 bill and abandoned him in hospital for seven months, has been arraigned at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The bricklayer who lives at 15, Babayemi Street, Alagbado, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for breach of peace and refusing to pay his son’s bill.
Prosecutor Clifford Ogu told the court that the offences were committed between June 25, 2017 and January 2018 at Rem-Yem Hospital, Ijaiye, Lagos.
He said the accused’s eight-year-old son was knocked down by a driver and was taken to hospital.
“Since then, the accused refused to show up, leaving the son and his wife to fend for themselves.
“The driver who knocked down the boy gave the accused money, but he refused to pay the bill,” Ogu said.
He added that the accused person’s son had been in hospital since then and was discharged last September.
“The hospital management wrote a petition against the accused and he was arrested. The hospital bill is N325,000 ,” the prosecutor said.
The offences violate sections 166(d) and 321 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Its the love of money that is the root of all evil. Money in itself is meant to live life but greed is what is making many to lose sanity.
If the person that knocked down his son had not dropped the money, the world would have placed a curse on him and I am sure the man would never have imagined that the boy’s father could be such a beast. It only shows how much value the foolish man placed on his family

Probably his reason will never be far from the usual Devil made him do it…only a dopehead can act that way, making a woman pregnant is not enough to answer a father.

Nothing new here because from time irresponsible fathers have often made selfish choices over and above the welfare of their children. They can choose not to return home after work but rather visit an eatery or bar to eat or drink as the case may be, when there is no food for the family and they know so. There is even a case where a father who worked as cook in some Government establishment declined to go donate blood for his sick child in hospital on the excuse that the fire he is around all day as professional cook has dried up his blood so he has none to spare for donation to the child. Yes, those”fathers” are there o!!! We just thank God the child in this story is now okay.
