A Chief Magistrate court sitting in Bauchi State, on Monday convicted Attahiru Umar Sade, a bachelor to four years imprisonment for seducing a married woman.
Chief Magistrate, Isa Mohammed, delivered the verdict.
The woman’s husband, Suleiman Bello, had through his lawyers, UB Darazo, Auwal Ibrahim and Jibrin Sa’id Jibrin filed a direct criminal complaint against the accused.
According to Bello, since July 2010, Umar Sade had been asking his wife Munira Mohammed to have a sexual relationship with him He said that he confronted the man and told him to stop disturbing his wife.
Bello said he relocated from his former house in other to prevent him from seeing her but in spite of that, he didn’t know how the accused managed to lay hands on his wife’s mobile phone number and called her on Monday September 26, 2011, adding that he sent her a N500 recharge card the following day.
Bello said he reported the matter to the Dutsen Tanshi police command on September 27, 2011 since the man refused to stay away from his wife, adding that he called twice to enquire if he was at home.
Counsel to the complainant told the court the accused committed criminal offences of trespass and enticing a married woman which is, contrary to section 342, 344, and 389 as well as punishable under section 348, 355, and 389 of the penal code laws.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for leniency.
Judge Mohammed sentenced him to six months in prison on the first count charge or pay a fine of N5, 000, on the second count charged he sentenced him to one year imprisonment or to pay a fine of N10, 000 while on the third count charge he was given two years imprisonment or to pay a fine of 15,000.
The chief magistrate therefore ordered Umar Sade to pay the sum of N50, 000 as compensation to the complainant or to spend six months in prison.
