April 26, 2013 – Nigerian Jugde Who Freed Pension Thief Suspended For One Year (Justice Abubakar Talba)

The suspension of Justice Abubakar Talba, the judge who freed John Yusufu, a popular pension thief who stole over N32.8 billion from Police Pension Fund has been approved.

His 12-month suspension was approved by today Marian Aloma Mukhtar , the present Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Mr. Yusufu, who pleaded guilty to three-counts of theft of the pension funds, was jailed two years on each count; but asked to pay a fine of N250, 000 on each. He paid the fine and was set free although the EFCC later re-arrested him for another charge.

The commission later said Mr. Talba violated an agreement all parties had that Mr. Yusufu was to be jailed without an option of fine. [Premium Times]

  3. 250,000 on each charge for turning d lives of others into a hell on earth? Suspended for just a year? Dis is a slight and an injustice to d hardworkingand persevering citizens ofdis country! D man should be disbarred for he’s worse dan d criminal himself!

  4. The gov. Is so fuck up. How can Jonathan just stand there and let this judge do what he did ,and he only gets ONE YEAR of suspension ….no wonder people are suffering. He is meant to be fired and be IMPRISONED . The judge who gave this sentenced should also be fired.
