A Gwagwalada Upper Area Court has ordered that a 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Aliyu, be remanded in prison custody over the theft of a goat valued at N65,000.
The accused was arraigned on a two count charge of conspiracy and theft, contrary to sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The accused was alleged to have conspired with three others now at large to steal the goat in Dogonruma Village, Abaji Area Council of the FCT. The police prosecutor, Inspector Modupe Musa, told the court that the accused was arrested on December 31, 2012 following a petition by one Donald Aburan who resides in Maitama, Abuja.
According to her, the said crime was committed in September 2012, adding that the suspect was arrested at the point of selling the goat by a team of vigilante.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him by the police.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Babangida Hassan, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till February 20 for hearing.
