In a devastating incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, a residential building located on Cascol Street in the Ojo area of Lagos State was engulfed in flames, resulting in the destruction of properties and belongings.

According to reports gathered by eyewitnesses, the fire outbreak was triggered by an explosion of a camp gas inside the eight-room bungalow. The intensity of the fire quickly spread throughout the building, causing extensive damage.

Amodu Shakiru, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, confirmed the incident, shedding light on the circumstances that led to the fire outbreak. It was revealed that one of the occupants of the building was cooking in the corridor using a camp gas when the explosion occurred.

Shakiru stated, “The building was severely burnt along with its contents due to the explosion. We also discovered that the passage of the building was being used as a makeshift kitchen, as no specific area was designated for cooking purposes on the premises. Additionally, we identified at least six camp gas cylinders within the building.”

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services received an emergency call reporting the incident at approximately 9:05 am. Prompt action was taken, and the fire was successfully contained within the affected building, preventing its spread to neighboring structures. The efficient response of the fire service personnel saved adjoining buildings from being consumed by the gas-induced fire.

The spokesperson further emphasized that the situation could have been more catastrophic if not for the timely intervention of officers from the Ojo military cantonment. These brave individuals played a crucial role in safeguarding the firefighters as they battled the raging flames.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported as all the occupants of the building managed to escape unharmed. However, the emotional and material loss experienced by the residents is undoubtedly significant, as their personal belongings and cherished possessions were consumed by the devastating fire.
