The Dream of a Better Life

For the busy city of Ajegunle Lagos, dey one young man named Kunle. Kunle na intelligent and ambitious man wey always dream of a better life. Him dey work as a software developer, but him dey struggle to make ends meet. Him always dey think of how to escape the daily stress of living in Lagos and find greener pastures.

One day, Kunle meet one beautiful woman wey dey work for a big multinational company. Her name na Amanda. Amanda na ready-made career woman, successful and established. She don travel go many countries and her lifestyle dey glamorous. Kunle dey impressed with her and him begin dey think say to marry Amanda go solve all him problems.

The Warning of a Mother’s Love

Kunle mama, Mama Adeola, na devout Christian woman. She dey always pray for Kunle and dey guide am with godly advice. When Kunle tell her about Amanda, Mama Adeola no too happy. She say, “Kunle, no be everything wey shine be gold. Pray before you marry her. Make sure say God dey inside this decision.

But Kunle no hear word. Him eye dey on the flashy lifestyle wey Amanda get. He believe say if he marry her, e go fit travel go Canada and become Canadian citizen. Mama Adeola continue to warn am, she say, “My son, listen to me. No marry this woman because of her money or status. Marry person wey get godly character and go support your dreams.”

Kunle nod, but him mind don already dey made up. He propose to Amanda and she accept. Dem plan big wedding for Lagos, and before you know, Kunle don relocate to Canada with Amanda.

The Reality of Marriage

For Canada, life no be as easy as Kunle think. Amanda busy with her career and no get time for Kunle. She dey always travel, and Kunle dey lonely. He try to find job, but e no easy. Amanda begin dey show her true colors. She dey controlling and disrespectful. She talk down on Kunle and make am feel less of a man.

Kunle begin dey regret him decision. He remember the warning wey him mama give am. But he no fit go back to Nigeria because he don burn all him bridges. One night, as he dey sit down alone for their big house, he pray, “God, help me. I don make mistake. Show me the way out.”

The Accident

One fateful day, Kunle and Amanda dey drive go one business dinner. As dem dey drive for the highway, Amanda and Kunle begin argue. Amanda dey shout, and Kunle dey try to calm her down. Suddenly, Amanda lose control of the car and dem get serious accident. Kunle wake up for hospital, he realize say he don lose the use of his legs. He dey paralyzed.

Amanda no even show any remorse. She continue her life like nothing happen. She dey busy with her career and leave Kunle for house to fend for himself. Kunle feel abandoned and depressed. He remember the words of his mama, “Pray before you marry her.”

The Consequences of Disobedience

Kunle life don turn upside down. He dey live unfulfilled life. He no fit work, no fit move around, and he dey depend on Amanda for everything. But Amanda no care. She dey busy with her career and her life. Kunle feel trapped and hopeless. He remember his mama prayer and her advice. He wish say he listen to her.

One day, Kunle receive news say his mama don pass away. He feel deep pain and regret. He know say if he listen to her, he for no dey in this situation. He pray, “God, forgive me for my disobedience. Help me find peace and purpose again.”

The Path to Redemption

Kunle begin dey attend church for Canada. He find small comfort in the word of God. He meet one pastor, Pastor John, wey begin dey counsel am. Pastor John tell am, “Kunle, God no dey forsake us even when we make mistakes. Jeremiah 29:11 talk say, ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”

Kunle begin dey find small hope in these words. He decide to use his experience to help others. He start a support group for people wey dey go through similar challenges. He begin dey share his story and the lessons he don learn. He talk about the importance of prayer, godly counsel, and listening to the wisdom of elders.

Finding Purpose in Pain

Kunle support group begin grow. People dey come from different parts of Canada to listen to him story and find encouragement. He realize say even though he don make mistake, God fit still use him pain to bring healing to others. He begin dey feel sense of purpose and fulfillment.

One day, Amanda come meet Kunle. She say, “Kunle, I realize say I don wrong you. I dey sorry for everything. Can we start over?” Kunle look Amanda, he remember the pain she don cause him. But he also remember the words for Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Kunle forgive Amanda, but he know say he no fit continue the marriage. He decide to focus on his new purpose and the support group wey dey bring him joy. He tell Amanda, “I forgive you, but I need to move on. I don find new purpose in helping others.

A New Beginning

Kunle life don change. He no get the flashy lifestyle wey he dream of, but he get something more valuable – peace and purpose. He continue to inspire others with his story and the lessons he don learn. He tell people, “All that glitters no be gold. Pray before you make any decision, especially for marriage. Listen to the wisdom of elders and trust God to guide you.”

He remember the words of his mama, “Pray before you marry her.” He realize say true happiness no dey come from material things or status, but from following God’s will and living with integrity.

The Moral Of the Story

My people, this story dey teach us big lesson. No be everything wey shine be gold. Before you make any major decision, especially for marriage, make sure say you pray and seek godly counsel. Listen to the wisdom of elders and no let material things blind your eyes.

Remember the words for Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Another important verse na Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”

Hold on to Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
