rccg member suicide third mainland bridge

March 25, 2017 – How RRS Prevented RCCG Church Member, Lagos Textile Dealer From Committing Suicide While Attempting To Jump Into Third Mainland Bridge Lagoon On Friday

Shortly after the report of Mrs. Abigael Ogunyinka who was rescued by fishermen in Lagos Lagoon early Friday morning, another woman was today prevented at about 11:25 a.m from leaping into the Lagoon by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos state Police Command.

The lady, Taiwo Momoh, 58, a textile dealer in Lagos Island, had put off her shoes and was wrapping her dress around her when men of RRS 226 prevented her from jumping.

The lady, who lives in Lekki Lagos, disclosed that she was pushed to committing suicide in order to put an end to her constant sleeplessness and shame occasioned by her indebtedness to three Swiss textile dealers.

She noted that her problem started sometimes in 2015, when a Bureau De Change dealer carted away her N18.7 million she wanted to change to pay her foreign creditors.

She added that the creditors had given her Swiss textiles worth several millions of naira, noting that she has maintained good relationship with the creditors for more than 15 years.

Her condition she said became compounded when robbers invaded her shop in Lagos Island carting away most of the textiles that was left with her.

She emphasized that most of the time, she has been having sleepless nights and seeing the ghosts of the creditors whenever she was alone.

Momoh, a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God disclosed that on several occasions she had attempted to see her Parish Pastor to identify with her problem and for the church to help her raise money to meet her Swiss Creditors in order to assure them that she would pay their money.

She noted that she was only allowed to see the second in command, which has yielded no fruits.

“Added to all these, my first son, whom I felt would stand by me and console me abandoned me. By the time I’m gone, maybe he would come around and inherit what is left.

I don’t want to use my debt and death to disturb anybody. I was in the shop this morning. I have looked everywhere and estimated what is there.

I think, with my house, a bungalow, those I am leaving behind can still live comfortably. I want to go and meet God. This world is empty”, she stated.

“I won’t because I want to get rich join cult group. I go my way and I don’t socialize unnecessarily”, she concluded.

She added, “I was a Muslim, I have because of this problem been jumping from one faith to the other. The problem is too much for me to bear. I want to go back to God.

That is why I have dressed very simple. I am ready to meet HIM. If He cannot address my problem on earth, let me go back to Him.”

  1. Mama, thank God for rescuing your precious life from the brink of self-destruction. Nobody can see or meet God Almighty after terminate his or her own life, instead you would have landed in the most horrible and place of torment called hell. Mama, you must give thank to God for your good health, for living in your own house in Lekki, and for being alive. Reject suicidal spirit that want to send you to hell as quickly as possible. Even in your present condition and indebtedness to Swiss textile factory, you are still very blessed in Nigeria. So rejoice and be peaceful Mama.

    • Thank you Omokehinde, I love your advice and secondly she can as well sell the house in lekki and make some million to pay the customer atleast half of the money and rent a self contain for herself.

  2. for thew first time OMOKEHINDE i was disapointed with ur comments, can i ask you did GOD himself came to you and tell you personally that if you kill urself u will end up in hell or you just going by wht your pastors been saying to you or better still read it in a bible? cmon guy the last thing u can say about smone who is depressed and wanted to take her life is ur Hell fire preaching message….Lemme pray you don’t experience wht a really really really depression is….all ur comments are always very constructive but this one is really hateful and uncalled for

    • Isupport your comment. Solution to depression is not pastor church or spiritual. Depression and mental illness are a condition. If properly diagnosed they can be treated. Nigerians/Africans must never educated about these illness or else I fear many will for a cure in the wrong places.

  3. i see that everyone is following what one person did. A doctor committed suicide last week and suddenly everyone wants to copy him. This has got to stop. Depression and mental illness can be treated. There should be more awareness on these sickness.

  4. THIS ONE THAT anybody who gets fed up with life want to jump into this Lagos lagoon… My people what is really happening? Sounds more like this lagoon is hungry and angry.

May God deliver us from the temptation of suicide because any kind of suicide is just like jumping directly on the devil‘s dinning table during his meal time.

    I take a stroll…

  5. Chopping your head off is not the remedy to headache. You don’t need to visit any Pastor for this kind of problem. They don’t have a solution to this kind of problem but a Cripple can walk whenever they set up an organized crusade. All you need to do is to re-strategize yourself by coming up with a new plan on how to deal with this situation. You have not sold your property to pay off this debt. Why do you think jumping into the ocean will solve this problem?. I think you are just seeking an attention.

  6. this woman is very very stupid let her die..ur living comfortable and u want to commit suicide even some pple are suffering some are homeless.u that god blessed you have ur own house in lekki and u want to die.stupid idiot pls leave her let her go on and kill herself so that money can reach us

    • No need to abuse the woman. There are wealthy people out there who commit suicide. It’s not all about money. Am afraid there is a stronger meaning to why people decide to take their own lives. It could be pressure debtness marital problem illness. So let’s show sympathy for those in such a situation.

  7. please people should be careful the word we chose to use.. this lovely lady clearly hasn’t got mental illness but suffering form deep anxiety stemmed from debt and business worry and without financial backup/support or family love, anyone in her situation might have even gone round stack naked in the streets. this is a lady whose church had failed her in so many ways, she felt empty with no way out the only way she saw out was ending it by suicide.. we live in a world or materiel wealth a society where you have to belong to be respected and appreciated. all she need right now is prayers, love and support not negative labelling and name calling.. i pray that all your debt and worries be wiped off by the power of thy holy spirit woman you are blessed and highly favoured and for those who abcorned with her money may their wrath not be far from them IJN
