Saturday Inspiration: You Were Born An Original, Don’t Die A Copy!

you were born an original don't die a copy

Nov 25, 2017 – Saturday Inspiration: You Were Born An Original, Don’t Die A Copy!

By Phil Drysdale

I love this quote, don’t you? It inspires me to be myself.

I love that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made. As human beings we have been made in the image and likeness of God and that is such a beautiful thing, what a privilege to be the only physical thing that bears His likeness. Not only that, as believers in Christ, we are His resting place, the temple of the living God, the Holy of Holies!

However it’s important that we know that this doesn’t mean we are just a bunch of clones. Just because we are all made in God’s image doesn’t mean we should be carbon copies of one another. Let’s look at God shall we?

You see even God Himself is a person of three persons. Three unique and individual persons so at one with one another and sharing such intimacy and union that they are one person. The early church struggled to grasp this concept so much that they were constantly being misunderstood as either saying God was one person, and rejecting the deity of Christ or that God was three persons and rejection the truth that there is only one true God. The truth is we still even struggle with this today.

I digress though, this purpose of this devotional is not to go into the depths of the trinity. What I am trying to communicate here is that in God’s image we are so “one” with Him that in many ways we should look just like Him, and in turn we may well look just like our brothers and sisters in Christ. But in the same turn, just as Christ and God are not of a different Spirit they do have different roles.

You have a unique calling on your life and unique giftings to make that calling possible. This is the joy of being in His image but being a unique facet of that image. Like looking at a multi-faceted gem, it is the same gem anyway you look at it but it looks so different depending to what part you look at.

You were born an original. Don’t die a copy.

No matter how tempting it is, don’t fall into the rat-race of trying to become those around you when all God has ever wanted you to be was yourself.

Prayer for the day@

Father, thank you so much that I am made in your image, what a privilege it is to be made one with you and to be your representation on the Earth! I ask you that you would help me recognise who I am in you, help me to discover all that you have for me in my calling and my giftings.

Help me to celebrate my unique role and expression in the body of Christ and not only that but to celebrate the uniqueness of other people around me rather than be jealous of them. Amen
