Second Nigerian Doctor Dies Of Coronavirus In UK Hospital

He was indeed a gallant frontline health-worker. Brilliant, hardworking and relentless in his positive approach, where else would a warrior have died if not on the battlefield?

Dr Edmond Adedeji took a bow on April 8,2020 in the United Kingdom where he and other health-workers are trying their best to combat the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

He died in the Intensive Care Unit of the West Country Hospitals where he worked as a Locum Registrar in the Accident & Emergency Department.

He died on April 8 after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, described the 62-year-old as a “respected and well-liked member of the team.”

A heartbroken family has paid tribute to Dr. Adedeji who “died doing the job he loved – serving others before himself.”

In a statement, his family said: “We as a family are grateful to God for the life of Dr Edmond Adefolu Adedeji.

“We would like to thank the staff and his colleagues for looking after him during his final days.

“He leaves behind a wife, three children and three grandchildren.”

Also, Kevin McNamara, chief executive of Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, described Dr Adedeji as “a member of our GWH family”.

“Dr Adedeji had worked with us as a locum registrar in the emergency department since August 2019 and was a respected and well-liked member of the team,” he said.

“His family have been informed and we ask that their privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.

“On behalf of the whole trust, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Edmond’s family.

“Our thoughts are with them, and his friends and colleagues at the trust.”

Also, in a Facebook post, the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wrote about the deceased:

“We were clapping, whooping and cheering extra loudly tonight for carers across Swindon and Wiltshire 👏👏👏 Especially for Dr Edmond Adedeji, a doctor in our emergency department, who died this week after testing positive for Coronavirus. Our thoughts are with his family who said “He died doing a job he loved, serving others before himself”. 💙 STAY HOME TO PROTECT THE NHS AND SAVE LIVES 🙏”

In some of the comments on Facebook, Sarah Elizabeth Ranger wrote. “A dear hardworking doctor and colleague who’s heart was on his sleeve. RIP Dr Adedeji you’ll be dearly missed, heaven has gained an angel. Love and thoughts to your family x”

“Can’t believe I saw you just 4 weeks ago with my son in A&E department. Such a lovely friendly man. Pray The Gates of Heaven opens up to you. I’m still in shock😭😭” wrote Anita-Stephen Okereke

Kim Wilcox wrote, “He was in my thoughts tonight also for a work colleague of my husband who died last night from Covid-19 😭😭😭”

A health-worker, Leigh Jenkins, wrote what most of them must be passing through on a daily basis. “ I never had the privilege of meeting Dr Adedeji but I clapped long and loud for him tonight. As a midwife I am scared to go to work but I can’t even begin to imagine the terror of working in a Covid area and walking into that every shift. Then crawling out scared of what germs you are taking home. You are all so brave and deserve every clap. Hang in there, this will end xxx”

A son-in-law to the deceased. Paul Adesanya, took to Facebook and wrote this of his father-in-law, ” I have heard and read of many heroes, and I am glad that my father in-law, Dr Edmond Adedeji was one. “
