2 police officers and 4 armed robbery suspects died during a gun battle at a bank in Ayobo area of Ipaja Lagos yesterday.
The men were killed during an exchange of fire between the armed robbery gang who attempted to rob a new generation bank.
The killed police officers were identified as a corporal and a sergeant attached to the Ipaja Police Division. Another officer who got injured during the raid is in an undisclosed hospital.
According to area residents, some armed men stormed the bank on Sunday afternoon and attempted to break the bank’s vault. A distress call was sent to the police who engaged the robbers in a shootout.
An officer of the bank confirmed the raid but insisted that no money was stolen. “Yes the incident happened but they did not get into the bank as they planned. No money was stolen,” he said.
The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary as investigation continues.
