2 Children Kidnapped In Makurdi Benue State Found In Rivers State

In a recent development, the Benue State Police Command has shed light on its successful mission to rescue two kidnapped children who were originally from the state but found in Rivers State. The revelation was made public in an official press release issued in Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State. The statement was put forth by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Sewuese Anene.

Delving into the details, SP Anene drew attention to the timeline of the events. The saga began unfolding on the 24th of September, 2023. On that fateful day, an anguished family from Makurdi came forward to report a deeply unsettling incident. The Kpaakpa family, residing on Badagry Street opposite the St. Peters Church in Wurukum, Makurdi, shared their harrowing tale of their two children who mysteriously disappeared. The children were identified as Philomena Kpaakpa, a young girl of 6 years, and her younger brother, Benedict Kpaakpa, who was not even two years old at the time of the incident.

The Police Command, recognizing the gravity of the situation, immediately sprung into action. An intensive investigation was initiated, casting a wide net across the nation to gather information about the children’s whereabouts. The search process is standardized in cases like this, wherein a nationwide signal is sent out to all pertinent authorities to stay alert about any potential leads.

The waiting period was filled with anticipation until a breakthrough came on the 20th of October, 2023. A piece of invaluable information reached the Benue State Police Command from their counterparts in Rivers State. The Rivers State Police Command informed that during one of their operations in the Rumu-Okoro area, they stumbled upon three children who were in the custody of a medical doctor. The striking similarity between the descriptions of two of these children and those provided by the Kpaakpa family in their report became increasingly apparent.

Without wasting any time, the Benue State Police Command dispatched a skilled team of detectives to Rivers State to ascertain the identities of the children and take all requisite measures. Their journey culminated in a heartwarming reunion as the two children, Philomena and Benedict, were positively identified and matched to the descriptions provided earlier. Along with them, another child, named Godsgift Julius, was also found. Unfortunately, the identity of Godsgift Julius’s parents remains shrouded in mystery, and he has not yet been returned to his family.

SP Anene also highlighted that the medical doctor, under whose possession the children were found, is currently facing rigorous scrutiny in Rivers State. Meanwhile, investigations are also underway in Benue to identify any potential accomplices or individuals involved in this sinister scheme.

In light of these incidents, the Benue State Police Command has taken the opportunity to impart some words of caution and guidance to the community. The statement earnestly urges all stakeholders, be it parents, guardians, educators, or anyone in a position of care and supervision over children, to exercise heightened vigilance. The objective is to ensure that children remain safe and protected from the clutches of child trafficking and any such nefarious activities.
