One Michael Ogundimu, 25, and 13 other suspected Eiye Confraternity members, were on Wednesday arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly belonging to a secret cult.

All the 14 suspected cultists who all reside in Iyana-Ipaja Area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Romanus Unuigbe, had told the court that the accused and others still at large, were found holding an unlawful initiation meeting on Dec.16 at about 11:04 a.m. at Kolab Brotel, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

Unuigbe said a vigilance group on patrol got a report that some gang members were holding a meeting and disturbing people in the area.

He said that based on the report, the vigilance group went on patrol of the area and found the men gathered for an unlawful meeting.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 42 (a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adewale Ojo, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum.

Ojo adjourned the case until Jan. 26, 2018 for substantive trial.
