At least four children were confirmed dead while about 200 houses were destroyed as a result of heavy rains in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.
The havoc, which occurred between Saturday and early hours of yesterday also destroyed a mosque at Barakallahu area of Gusau metropolis.
One of the victims, Mallam Ibrahim, told Daily Sun that the incident claimed the lives of four children who could not help themselves out of their houses as a result of collapsed buildings.
According to him, property worth millions of naira were also lost to the rain.
According to the Ward head, Malam Abubakar Bawa, three of the four children belonged to a policeman identified as Sergeant Ibrahim Ruwandoruwa. They included a six-year-old girl, while others were between three and four years old.
Malam Bawa added that, another child died while trying to flee the area.
“We thought the child was at an Islamic school nearby but left during the windstorm before we later discovered his body under a wreckage.”
