Nov 17, 2017 – Innocent Freeborn, Nigerian Pastor Arrested By DSS Without Offence, Detained For 8 Months Wins Court Case

The DSS yesterday told an FCT High Court, Lugbe, that it was seeking out of court settlement in the suit filed by Pastor Innocent Freeborn, challenging his detention since March 7.

Freeborn, a pastor with the Lord’s Charismatic Warrior Ministry was arrested on March 7 by the DSS at Aba, without any stated offence and whisked to the DSS Port Harcourt command.

Mr Shimana Azer, counsel to the DSS, the defendant in the matter, told the court that the DSS had approached counsel to the applicant, Mr George Ibiam, for amicable resolution of the case.

He added that though Freeborn was still in the DSS custody, the DSS was willing to settle out of court and free the detained pastor.

Ibiam told the court that the parties were in the process of resolving the matter.

He said that the DSS had approached him for an amicable resolution; adding that he was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Ibiam said that Freeborn had been in the custody of DSS for eight months without trial, adding that the family just discovered his where about with the help of a freed detainee.

He said that his client was arrested without any charges and whisked to Port Harcourt, then brought to the headquarters of DSS in Abuja, and had since remained there without trail.

According to him, the family initially thought Freeborn was dead or kidnapped, but it was one of those detained along with him in Port Harcourt and later released that made us know he was in DSS custody.

He added that it was the person that told the family that Pastor Freeborn has been taken to Abuja.

Ibiam said that when they got the information, they came to the headquarters of the DSS in Abuja, but they were refused access to see Freeborn.

The counsel said that his client approached the court to enforce his fundamental rights, for being detained since March without being charged to any court.

Justice Angela Otaluka, adjourned the case until Dec. 11 for report of settlement or hearing if there was any breach of agreement to free the plaintiff.

  1. Imagine the trauma to the man and to his family all the while they did not know his whereabouts and were not communicating! Just hope the alleged out of court settlement is genuine and that payment to the victim will be prompt.
    There is God o!

  2. Too bad, a man is bn detained for 8 good months without any criminal offence naa waooo. I hope he will be compensated handsomely.

  3. TRUELY CHRISTIANS are easy prey to baseless attacks, intimidations and unwarranted molestations in the World especially in Nigeria.

No wonder in Psalm 34:19, the Holy Scripture says: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous BUT the Lord delivers him from them all“.

If you arrest an imam or one mallam like that and detain him without any cogent reason, before you know it, you would have a national jihad war brewing. The worst fact is, in most cases, it is the innocent people that suffers the consequences.

All the people behind the arrest and detention of this SOG must be fished out fast and be made to answer to their crime.

After that, they ( the culprits) must compensate the SOG handsomely and must ensure he‘s taken for holistic medical examinations and care

    I take a stroll…

  4. There is no different with Idi Amin system where Mallam Mingu detained and kill people anyhow without the knowledge of their family, could imagine, they family thought he was dead or kidnapped not knowing that he is in detention of Nigerian DSS for 8 good months, his family got to know he was alive through a fellow detainee who was released, Can somebody know how his family members are felt? If he has kids and wife, did you know how the children have felt that their Daddy is missing or dead? Can somebody knew the tromor his family members are been subjected to? I thought that when a person is detained the people who detained him or her should let his family know that he is in their custody, assuming he died in detention, which should have been the end of an innocent man, God is watching everybody. When the world described Nigerian Police as the worst in the whole world, I saw many Nigerian shouting foul, But thank God that with this social media available, their crime against humanity will be exposing on a daily bases. God will not bless a country that shed Innocent blood on a daily bases. God will not bless this country unless they repent from their evil, the worst judgment should go to the people who supposed to talk, but they chose to be quite especially our so called Men of God. May God protect Innocent Nigerians.
