Aprill 22, 2016 – Restaurant Owner, Mother Disowns School Dropout Son Arrested For Using Toy Gun For Robbery In Lagos

A restaurant owner at Iyana-Iba area of Lagos has disowned her 16-year-old son, Ibeh, over robbery allegation. Police detectives in Lagos arrested Ibeh for being in possession of a toy gun. The teenager, however, insisted that he was not a robber.

The police accused Ibeh of using the toy gun to rob unsuspecting passengers in traffic at night at Iyana- Iba.

When his mum heard that her son had been arrested over allegation of robbery, she promptly disowned him.

According to Ibeh, his mum didn’t try to beg the police to leave him. Ibeh, who dropped out of school in primary three, used to wash buses and motorcycles at a carwash.

He said: “Before they took me to the police station, they took me to my mother.

But my mum and I had been having a strained relationship. She allowed the police to take me away.

She said I used to give her too much problems. She even said that whenever she asked me to wash used plates in her restaurant, I would run away. People told me that she had disowned me.”

  1. Parenting is about the most difficult task that humans face, and any man or woman that succeeds in raising up responsible children should count themselves accomplished. They should not allow themselves to be intimidated by other parents who have only material wealth to show as their accomplishments.

I believe that families that pray together stand a better chance of raising responsible children. Going to church can NEVER take the place of family devotion. In a family devotion, all members are gathered; there is where the parents drive home several moral points before the presence of God. And believe you me, what is learnt there stays longer in the memory than what is learnt in a thousand churches.

  2. Its a pity. Mother, even if you son is bad, not this time around you will disown him. Once he’s true with his jail term or remand home. He needs affection, prayer and deliverance.

  3. The mother is wicked. She should have at least plead on behalf of her son first. Disowning him will only make him feel dejected, isolated and useless and all these will make him grow more wicked instead of turning to be good.

  4. You are disobedient child, look at where you land yourself. You drop out of school, are you forming big boy?

While you are serving your jail term better repent genuine and give your life to Jesus Christ, he is the one that will change you completely then go back to school?

Mummy please forgive him, don’t disown him, he is still your son all you own him is to prayer for him, God will help through your prayers and change him. God bless you

  5. Uhm this is a touching scene ,i wish nigeria could have a remind home, like this part of country am living here,bc this guy too young to abandon no matter what, who knows tomorrow, let authority do something about this pls,god bless nigeria.

  6. That child has dis-mother his mother for long now, hence his refusal to assist her in doing anything both at home and shop.
The mother was just waking up from her long slumber.
Its so bad, so how about his father, his siblings?

    D Hunter.

  7. The lady is devastated and from all indications does not know how else to salvage the situation. Perhaps the boy should be taken to trained Social Welfare People for counselling. No mention is made to the father so she may be a single parent. Borstal Institution if nearby might also help.

  8. Is there any prison in Nigeria? Is a dead sentence zone. I pity the boy. If he comes out alive then God is real and great. There no where to sleep as I hear. You share sleeping area on floor is only standing.

Nigeria prison is the most horrible in West Africa. I pray he does not go to jail if he was not an arm robber.
