March 16, 2013 – My Oga At The Top, Obafaiye Shem Suspended Over Channels TV Blunder

Mr Obafaiye Shem, the Commandant for Lagos State Chapter of The Nigerian Civil Defence Corps has been suspended.

Obafaiye Shem’s suspension came after his TV blunder on Channels Breakfast show that went viral.

In the interview, Obafaiye Shem couldn’t mention his organisation’s website name and the name of his boss.

He referred to his boss as my oga at the top hence the viral Oga at the top comedy.

According to sources, he hasn’t lost his job but his suspension might just be temporal.

I am quite surprised to learn that the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) has suspended – Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC after his infamous interview at Channels TV.

By Jove, that is an overkill for someone who simply got a web address wrong and invoked the infamous “my oga at the top” phrase. So if a public servant fumbles during an interview regardless how innocuous the error is, he risks losing his job, while felons like Rasheed Maina are left to keep their job until Mr. President’s office is threatened by the national assembly.
While, the “my oga at the top” interview, provides the nation a fun way to escape the daily pressures and frustrations associated with daily life in Nigeria, however, I do not think this is a major offense per se and Mr. Shem should not be treated as an offender.

Do you think his suspension is fair?

Suspending him isn’t fair. While criminals in political uniforms are allowed to g☺ scot free. I think the oga at the top shd plan to organise training for team (NSCDC) to enable them catch up with the current society, where everythg its now via the web. Am so sure that in their offices there is nothg like internet. Who do we blame? Even the oga at the top might also not know not only the website but the objective (motto) of this noble corp.

personally i find the whole situation hilarious. Granted, he messed up really bad, but frankly he is not the first. In all fairness to him, the president`s wife, dame patience is not any better, in fact she is a lot worse off. As bad as her spoken english is and even worse her accents, she has never been reprimanded for her public display of erroneous expressions. This man comported himself better, sounded better and responded to all of the interviewers` questions no matter that most of them were evasive and wrong of course. He is just one among the numerous folks who do not know much about this IT age. I bet his OGA at the top does not even know what a computer is. They are all ill informed yeye big men that we will always have with us.

Enough of this nonsense and stupidity. Mr Shem has done his best and nobody is above mistake.

I think Commandant Shem’s suspension is proper. After all the furore of #moatt there’s just no way he can be of a right frame of find to work effectively. the suspension would help to keep him away from work and the spotlight to enable him recover his professional equilibrium.
