The mastermind of a plot to obtain millions from the United States IRS has been jailed.
35-year-old Emmanuel Kazeem, a resident of Bowie in Maryland was on Thursday sentenced to 15 years in prison in Oregon for Identity theft and tax fraud.
Emmanuel and his accomplices allegedly used 91,000 stolen identities they obtained from a Vietnamese hacker to file for tax refunds.
Although they managed to file over 10,000 fraudulent refunds that fetched them over $11.6million, they were exposed when a woman noticed that someone had filed false tax returns on behalf of her and her husband.
She alerted the IRS which swung into action and tracked down Emmanuel Kazeem and his group.
