Sept 2nd, 2012 – Outrage Over The Appointment Of A Malaysian As Vice Chancellor Of New Kano University

Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano state yesterday appointed a Malaysian Professor Dato Dr. Mohd. Razali Bin Agus as the Vice Chancellor of the newly established North-West University in Kano State. naijagists.com

Before his appointment, the 57-year old Malaysian professor worked as a VC in a community college in Kuala, Lumpur, Malaysia.

His appointment has sparked outrage among Nigerian scholars who believed this move is an insult to qualified people in Kano state and Nigeria as a whole.

Do you think this is a good move?

this is a very big insult indeed, I live in Malaysia and there is no way a Malaysian that work as a local teacher in a community college here in Kuala Lumpur the capital city, can be used as a Vice chancellor in Nigerian university , this is backwardness , the politicians of Nigeria should be careful, there is no good work giving to Nigerians living in Malaysia,

This is unbelievable, right now l’m writing from Malaysia in one of the local universities library located in Sunway, Subang Jaya, Selangor State, Malaysia is a very discriminating country especially towards Africans they will never allow blacks to work even as a cleaner in the restaurants. Foreign students are not allowed to work. They prefer Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Myanmar, Pakistanis etc.Every week the police and immigration will come and raid the condominium that is, high rise residential apartment. The government of Malaysia loves her citizens so much but our government is very wicked towards Nigerians. Ask for the salaries, number of articles in referred journals the Malay professor has published, Nigerians speak better English than them, the only thing in Malaysia is about the super infrastructural facilities better than even some countries in Europe and cheaper, that is why even students from France they are coming here.Corruption and nepotism is very high, just last Thursday their police at stole one of Nigerians ipad and phone in his car, police here is the most corrupt institution just like Nigeria. Please the people of Kano should march to the governor’s office until a local person is appointed. in Malaysia even if you marry their citizens you can never become a citizen. If your Nigerian wife gave birth here the baby is not a citizen unlike European countries as l’m talking now we have over 2,000 Nigerians in prisons here not for major crime but their visa expired and could not get money to pay their school fees. Malaysia government will never deport you but put the person in prison until the family in Nigeria send money for his flight ticket back home and it must be Qatar airline, may God deliver Nigeria.

Mallams are fools. Imagine having uneducated asian as a VC in a Nigerian university. In case if the governor does not know, there are thousands on Nigerian students in malaysia paying school fee from 2000USD and above and yet they can’t allow the guys be. Most nights their security agents visits most condos arresting and deporting these guys even when most of them are valid to stay there. While many jump from these usual high scrapper apartments just to escape being caught and deported and many dies in this bid to escape. Why couldn’t Malaysian government offer jobs to these suffering guys? why has they not appointed a Nigerian there such a prestigious position in their education sector or any other sector for that matter? Aboki is always an aboki.

Actually most of the negative comments are not based on any research that could produce factual information. For example, that Prof dr Mohd Razali Agus, Phd (Cornell University USA) has never been a community college vc. He was a full-fledged university VC (Industry University of Selangor) and prior to that was a Deputy VC for the most prestigious universty in Malaysia, University of Malaya, which is among the top 200 in the world.

He is a very pro-active, energetic and well-connected administrator and very learned academician with many publications. You can rely on him.

It is now time for us to elect the next Governor of Kano from Saudi Arabia, Yemen or Somalia. There is nothing wrong with having a foreigner as teacher in any Nigerian university, but to ask that foreigner to guide policy is a silly and misdirected political faux pas.
