Police Detectives attached to Anti-kidnapping section of the Abia State Police Command have rescued a baby girl stolen from her mother at birth even as they are still searching for a second baby also stolen.

Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner Leye Oyebade said a good citizen tipped them on the activities of some some young mothers identified as 17-year-old Ezinne Obiah and 18-year-old Abigail Udofia (the mother of the above baby)

“Both confessed to have sold their babies to one Esther Asuquo and her colleagues in Port Harcourt. We later recovered one of the babies, a three months old girl.” – Oyebade added

The mother of the baby, a JSS3 student in Aba said she was directed to one Esther Asuquo’s house where she delivered her baby. She was given N250,000 while the baby was sold for N800,000.

  1. A girl that has the mind to sell her baby, what is the guarantee she will not sell the child again now she knows there are people willing to pay up to N800,000 for the baby?
While the traffickers need to be arrested and prosecuted, the young mother’s issues also need to be addressed to ensure history would not repeat itself.

  2. Hey Nigeria. Another terrible news. Thank God for the rescue of this baby. This is happening a lot around Nigeria. Being pregnant for 9 months is not a joke. Young mums please stop selling your babies. Keep and manage your babies money is not everything. God will always provide for you as soon as the baby arrives.
