Dec 20, 2012 – Ogun State Government Principal Suspended Over Unauthorized Virginity Test On Students

The Government of Ogun State Nigeria under the leadership of Governor Ibikunle Amosun has suspended the principal of Ajuwon Secondary School in Iju Ajuwon Local Government Area of the state.

We learnt the school principal, one Mrs Olufunke Olatundun Aladeojebi has been suspended from her work after she allegedly conducted an authorized virginity test on female secondary school students without the consent of their parents or legal guidance.

Following an initial preliminary probe by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the female principal, Mrs. Aladeojebi had been terminated from her position.

Ogun state education commissioner, Barrister Segun Odubela said the Ministry had quizzed and investigate the secondary school principal in order to give her fair hearing.

Segun Odubela said that a 5-man panel including officials of both the Ministry and Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has commence further investigation to further deal with the matter.

The commissioner added that Ogun State government was equally worried about the well being of the students involved and for that reason would never put up with any act that might undermine their fundamental rights or jeopardise their future.

We equally believe in the need to maintain discipline in our schools and to follow due process in the handling of this particular case. We appeal to the parents of the students involved to be patient and allow us to handle the case as dictated by the law of the land and service rules, ” Odebula said.
