fat egyptian tv presenters suspended

August 17, 2016 – Fat Shamed Female Egyptian TV Presenters, Women Suspended , Ordered To Slim Down Before Returning To Work

Egypt’s National TV has suspended  8 women from its female TV presenters. The plus size women were ordered to go on a diet and lose weight before returning to work.

ERTU (Egyptian Radio & TV union) gave the women 4 weeks to slim down before they can air any program again.

Sadly, the announcement was made on live TV.

Haba!! This is human right abuse.

  1. since they are good at what they do and their husband are not complaining why would they be relieved of their jobs (this is bad)… i appreciate the fact that they were told to diet because it for their own good but not to the expense of their jobs..

    #clueless human

  2. TO SUSPEND them until they shed their weights is one thing, to announce it on air is another, and very unfair. Whoever gave that directive must be a chauvinistic sadist. I have this feeling that it wouldn’t have been like this if they were men.

BUT WHY do some people bother half no bit when they are gaining weight? I see no advantage in it at all. It brings them unnecessary embarrassments, puts their health at risk. So what’s the point, and why would they feel at peace like all is well? Shed some weight and live longer!

  3. LOL,@ METU NYETU, I SEE YOUR SEXISM AND PREJUDICE IN YOUR COMMENTS THERE, THOUGH YOU STARTED AS IF YOU ARE SYMPATHETIC TO THE WOMEN,BUT YOUR TRUE INTENTIONS SHOWS, IT’S PLAIN AND SIMPLE, THIS WOMENS WEIGHT IS NOBODY’S BUSINESS..THEIR HEALTH AND LIFE STYLE ISSUES ARE THEIR OWN PROBLEM, NOT YOURS!!! YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAT THE TV STATION THAT SUSPENDED THEM.
YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT COMMENTS AT THE FIST PARAGRAPH….
THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE REASON THEY SHOULD BE FIRED OR SUSPENDED IS ONLY IF THEIR WEIGHT IS OBSTRUCTING THEM FRM PERFOMANCE OF THIER DUTIES. NOTHING ELSE!!
YOU MY FRIEND, DOES NOT KNOW THE WOMENS HISTOR

    • @OLA, WHY did you fail to see that my second paragraph addresses the issue of plus size generally as applies to both men and women, and not just this particular incident? I am surprised that you came after me here.

  4. Its a nice move. By right they’re supposed to appear presentable and smart. They should trim down or forget the job.

  5. That’s being silly, what has stature got to do with job performance? They aint models for crying out loud. I hope their supposed 4week weight loss wouldn’t be detrimental to their health; as healthy weight loss is a step by step process.

  6. The weight of those ladies should not be an issue if their contract of employment did not include the condition that they stay slim or lose their job. Making their weight an issue now is like changing the goal post midway into a tournament and is most unfair.to add salt to injury, they announced their suspension during live broadcast.
It is this kind of pressure some Modelling Companies placed on their models some years past and the Girls in trying to comply starved themselves until they became anorexic, and there was great outcry in the Industry before same was reversed. Beauty is not only thin, it comes in all shapes and colors and every frame nature gives to individual is beautiful.
If the ladies were employed to be on camera while they were younger, with maturity and weight gain they could be assigned other duties that do not need focusing the camera on them rather than subject them to unnecessary public humiliation because of their weight.

The women should sue the TV station for dehumanizing treatment of them. Mchweew !!!
