Father Of 3 Commits Suicide In Benin City, Edo State After Being Sacked From Work
May 30, 2013 – Father Of 3 Commits Suicide In Benin City, Edo State After Being Sacked From Work
Frustration due to loss of job has led a father of three, Patrick Essien, to commit suicide in Benin City. Essien was found dangling from the roof of the toilet at his residence on Imasabemwen Street, off Siluko Road.
Some co-tenants who spoke to journalists, said the deceased had earlier complained of losing his job in one of the transport companies in the town.
It was gathered that one of the deceased’s co-tenants discovered the dangling lifeless body when he wanted to use the toilet.
The late driver, according to the deceased’s cotenants, lived at the residence for 14 years without any wife or children, but told them he had a wife and three kids somewhere.
The body of the deceased was later taken away by police. Meanwhile, an Egor Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 74-year-old man, Clement Omorogbe, to two years imprisonment for raping a minor in November 2010.
The convict, who was arraigned on two-count charge of indecent assault and rape, was not given any option of fine.
Presiding Magistrate, Eboh Braimoh, said it was to serve as deterrent to others.
A member of the Child Protection Network, Jenifer Ero, described the judgment as another victory for a rape victim.
The victim, who is now 13, was present in court.
