So where were you when the bill was given to your husband? Probably when your husband was telling you no enough money you thought he was lying to you,now you are seeing it by yourself. But if you love him, both of you can make much money now.
Your advise is good though, marriage is a progressive thing and don’t need to be selling out cow or goat that is not coming back to assist or be assisted.

HOW MUCH are we takling about here? Why didn‘t they specify the price so that people like us who have started entertaining the idea of settling down will know exactly where to take our HUNTING spree to.
But honestly, the bride price of some Igbo communities will make you want to remain single for life, chai… No be small thing o!
Apart from the bride price which MAY take about N500K at times, though depending where you‘re marrying from sha, the one I fear most is what they called “LIST“ chai, in that list, as they called it if you see five cows as a requirement, you must buy it o….or forfeit the wife. See gbege!
The cheapest people to marry in Nigeria are the Hausas. With just a N100k everything is set. Provided there is enough “Gworo“ Kola nut to go round. Then there is what they also called “Massa“ = a kind of cake made from the combination of raw rice and maize commonly serve in any hausa-muslim‘s special occations or meetings.
Very cheap.
That is why one man can marry as much as 4wives. Very cheap.
I take a stroll…

The issue of High bride price placed on our igbo ladies have become a major phenomenon in our society with unspeakable consequences. Some of our Igbo girls have been forced to elope with their lovers since no man can afford to pay their bride price. For some girls, it has opened the chapter of prostitution since no man can withstand the exorbitant price placed on them. It has led some men to maltreat their wives since they now considered their wives as a property they bought with their money. But Some claim it is a custom and culture of the IGBOS in general but I strongly disagree with them. The bride price exclusively depend on the part of the southeast and the family a man has gone to marry his wife. The most annoying of all is that, their is little a bride can do even though she latter acknowledge the things listed in the bill as many of this bills are often dictated by the community elders. The woman in this story should consider herself lucky because her lover stood beside her to pay off her bride price. But it is surely a practice most Igbo elders and their various communities has to discontinue to allow their girls marry off on time.
