August 21, 2011 – Niger State Polytechnic To Discontinue Pre-National Diploma Courses
Governor Babangida Aliyu, on Saturday, directed the management of Niger State Polytechnic to discontinue its pre-National Diploma courses from 2013.
The governor gave the directive during an interactive session with staff and students at the institution’s main campus in Zungeru. He said the courses were not recognised by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
“Pre-ND courses will be phased out in the next two years, that is in 2013 and there will be no more admission into Pre- ND,” he said.
The governor said that some institutions run the courses to generate revenue but in Niger State Polytechnic the revenue was not properly accounted for.
Aliyu urged management and students of the institution to be proactive in ensuring the aims and objectives of the institution were achieved.
Rector of the polytechnic, Garba Kamaye, said the institution was using the course as prerequisite for admission into main courses; adding that the polytechnic offered the programme to build the capacity of its staff and provide opportunities for civil servants in the state who might want to further their studies.
