Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is an actress that definitely stands out among her peers, equipped with a stunning appearance and high mental prowess, she holds the crowd at a ransom whether she is off-screen or on-screen. Her stunning qualities is one of the reasons she was given the popular nickname “Omo-sexy”. Her fan base is one of the largest in Nigeria with her reaching astonishing feats such as her being the first Nigerian to get one million likes on Facebook and also being listed on Time Magazine’s most influential people from Africa. One would think she was born already set up for success on the entertainment scene but that is not so.
Omotola’s primary ambition was to become a business entrepreneur but life had other plans for her. She has made her mark on the Nigerian entertainment scene and would be remembered for generations to come.
She was born on February 7 1978 in Lagos State Nigeria into a family of 5, she had two younger brothers and her parents were hardworking folks.
Omotola had her primary education at Santos Layout before proceeding to Command Secondary School in Kaduna for her secondary school. She got her first big role in 1995 when she escorted her friend to an audition, since then it has been a continuous rise to fame for her.
Since her introduction into the movie industry in 1995, she has featured in a lot of block buster movies earning her numerous awards in the country and on the international level. One of such is the popular “Ije” movie which featured the famous Genevieve Nnaji and also “Mortal Inheritance “ in which she played the lead role.
Omotola has had a very successful career as an actress, up to the extent in which she was honoured with the national award of member of the Order of the Niger (OON) for her immense contribution to the entertainment industry
Six years into her career Omotola Jalade Ekeinde was already one of the most popular actresses in the country featuring in some block buster movies such as Blood Sister, Korosogun and a host of others. She was widely accepted by the public as she managed to charm everyone with her outstanding beauty and talent. Her first major role in a movie “Immortal Inheritance”, one in which she took on the role of a girl suffering from a sickle cell disease was loved by both the local and international community.
Her amazing act in the movie won her the BEST ACTRESS IN AN ENGLISH SPEAKING MOVIE AWARD and also the OVERALL BEST ACTRESS AWARD in 1977’s The Movie Awards. She is the youngest actress in Nigeria to ever achieve such an outstanding feat.
Omotola sought to widen her horizon and get involved in new things. She had this philosophy of the sky being the limit and was interested in gaining a new audience for herself.
This led to the launching of her music career in the year 2005. Her music career birth three albums. She released the debut album in 2005 and it was titled “GBA”, it featured some of the biggest stars of that time and was regarded as widely successful.
Her second album “Me, Myself and Eyes” was not released but she proceeded to releasing her third studio in a quest to capture the international crowd with her music. Her last album had a team of some of the biggest international stars of that time in her bid to create that unique international sound.
After a successful career as an actress and a musician Omotola Jalade Ekeinde decided it was time to take a break from the rigorous work of an actress and decided to make her personal life a movie and her home the stage.
She launched the first reality show in Nigeria titled “Omotola, the real me”. It gave the public the insight into her life which they have all be craving for.
The reality show was a very lucrative deal which aired on Africa Magic Entertainment on DSTV.
It put her on a new level as the number one actress in Nigeria.
A while after the launch of her professional career as an actress she got married to the reputable pilot, Captain Matthew Ekeinde in 1996 where she picked up the last name” Ekeinde”.
Their wedding was an out of the ordinary one and it was celebrated in a rare and glamorous way, the couple had a white wedding on board of an aircraft.
Fabulous right, that is the life of Omotola.
The couple is blessed with four children named M.J, Princess, Micheal and Meriah. They had their first daughter in 1997 and if you are her fan and you kept up with her reality show, you would have seen the amazing individuals her kids have grown up to become.
Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has taken on a lot of philanthropic acts in the past and is still an active participant in various movements involved in making the world a better place. Some of the important campaigns she has been involved in include the United Nations World Food Programme, Walk the Walk campaign, Amnesty International Campaigns and a host of others
She established her own NGO named “Omotola Youth Empowerment Programme (OYEP) “, an NGO whose main objective is to provide the Nigerian youth with the skills, tools and knowledge needed to excel in the 21st century.
Omotola makes sure she has a positive impact in all her endeavours, always trying to make the world a better place.
Even though she doesn’t get as much screen time as before due to family and business, Omotola still makes sure every once in a while she is involved in block buster projects that keep her alive in our minds, examples of such are her recent movies “Alter Ego”and “The Island”.
She celebrated her 40th birthday a few months ago but it doesn’t seem like she will be taking a break anytime soon.
