Odunlade Adekola is no doubt the king of the Yoruba cinema. He is a face well known by not only the lovers of Yoruba movies but also the whole country. He has a unique way of taking on his roles and flawlessly delivering it, while still keeping the audience entertained with his antics. He is a well known Nigerian actor in the Nollywood industry otherwise known as the Cinema of Nigeria.
The Cinema of Nigeria is the official name of the Nollywood industry. It is in charge of the production of Nigeria films and came into existence at the end of the 19th century and the 20th century. At this point, the production of movies within the country was controlled by foreigners as Nigeria was still a colony. The Cinema of Nigeria began with the Colonial era, moved on to the Golden age, then the Video film era and is presently in the formative stages of the New Nigerian Cinema. The earliest movie made in Nigeria which featured Nigerian actors was produced in 1926 by Geoffrey Barkas, this film was called palaver.
By 1954, mobile cinema vans entertained an audience of over 3 million people and Nigerian productions were also seen at cinemas. In 1957, the industry had its first movie shot in color titled Fincho. After independence, cinemas became more wide spread subsequently leading to a noticeable increase in cinema contents. The likes of Moses Olaiya and Hubert Ogunde made a notable increase in theatre content. The emergence of the oil boom in 1973 further grew the entertainment industry which was at this time fully under the ownership of Nigeria.

By the 2000s nollywood had grown to become the second largest in the annual production of movies only behind the Hollywood entertainment industry of the United States and ahead of the Bollywood entertainment industry of India. The industry at this time had moved into the video film era also called the home video era. The audience of Nigerian productions began to expand well beyond the borders of Nigeria to include other African countries as well.
The mid-2000s brought about the rebranding of the Nollywood industry. This era is about making nollywood productions worthy to compete in terms of quality with other top movie industries around the world and it is still a work in progress.

Yoruba motion entertainment can be traced back to the 1930s to the Yoruba travel theatre group. These groups featured actors like Lere Paimo, Duro Ladipo and quite a number of other actors. Some of these names are still well known in the Yoruba movie industry today.

Odunlade Adekola is not just a Nigerian actor but also into directing and producing and has a production company called Odunlade Adekola film production. Odunlade was born on 31st December 1976 and is a native of Otun Ekiti in Ekiti state. He was born in Ogun state located in the South Western region of Nigeria to the family of Pastor and Deaconess Adekola.
He began his primary school education at St. John’s primary school and proceeded to St. Peter’s college Abeokuta. He moved further and gained a diploma certificate from Moshood Abiola polytechnic. Although this took a while he eventually went on to study Business Administration at the University of Lagos where he received his Bachelors degree in 2018.
He had a flare for acting from a young age and began writing short comedy plays and taking on the role of a jester when acting from a very young. This plays were acted in his church and he was always given the opportunity to show case his talent alongside his friend, in his church Christ Apostolic Church Lafenwa, Abeokuta.
Odunlade Adekola is said to have officially began his acting career in 1996. He was groomed by producer and actor Late Isola Durojaiye. The movie Asiri Gomina wa, produced by Isola Durojaiye was the movie which brought him into limelight. In 2014 he emerged the winner of the Africa movie Awards for best actor of the year and has also bagged quite a number of other awards. Odunlade Adekola is a rare talent and has starred in well over a hundred (100) movies. He delved into the Nigerian music industry in 2015.

Odunlade Adekola is married to Ruth Adekola. She lives a very private life and seems to prefer working from behind the scenes. The couple has been married since April 2003. They have four children the last of which was born in 2015. Ruth Adekola is said to have met her husband at a vigil in a Christ Apostolic church at Abeokuta. She reportedly had serious doubts about Odunlade Adekola mostly because of his acting profession, as she did not think she had what it took to manage the responsibility of being married to an actor. But after receiving consent from her pastor as well as her family, she proceeded with the relationship. This relationship as we all know ended up in marriage.
Ruth Adekola was born on the 2nd of November. She also graduated from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta. Her husband describes her as a very supportive and understanding woman. Despite various rumors going on about Odunlade having affairs with the likes of Eniola Ajao, kemi Afolabi and Bukola Adeeyo, Ruth Adekola is said to have absolute trust in her husband’s love and devotion to her.

It is quite a good watch.
Asiri Gomina Wa
It is a classic thriller which was produced by Ishola Durojaiye in 2003. It starred Odunlade Adekola and also the likes of Baba Latin and Lanre Hassan. This movie is said to have shot Odunlade Adekola into stardom.
Celebrity Marriage
This is an English speaking movie. It features quite a number of actors and actresses including Odunlade Adekola and Toyin Abraham who act as a couple in this movie, they both give quite a comic performance. The movie depicts the drama and deceit present in the lives of celebrities in the movie industry and many Nigerian couples.
Oyenusi
This movie was produced in 2014 and was a hit. It is an adaptation of a true-life story of a ruthless criminal in the western region of Nigerian who lived sometime in the 1970s. The movie was directed by Seun Olaiya, it stars Odunlade Adekola and the likes of Muyiwa Ademola. Odunlade played the role of Oyenusi and Muyiwa Ademola played the supporting role of his crime partner.
Pepeye Meje
This is yet another movie produced by Odunlade Adekola in which he plays the lead character whose wrong and careless doings in his past come back to haunt himself and his family.
A million Baby
For his role in this movie, Odunlade Adekola was nominated by the viewer’s choice awards for the Best Actor in a Comedy. The movie tells the story of a woman who is kind to a fault; her kindness would later be repaid unfairly.

The value of this hotel is estimated to be over N40 million and this is just the beginning as he has plans of further investing in more real estate projects.
Odunlade Adekola is the highest paid actor in the Yoruba movie industry. He has indeed taken over the Yoruba movie screen as a movie seems incomplete without his appearance. His talent for comedy has moved way beyond the Yoruba screen as he is gradually breaking new grounds and making his way into the English speaking movie industry.
