Okonjo-Iweala’s Resignation Rumour is False
August 20, 2011 – Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, they newly sworn in Minister of Finance, has not resigned, her media aides have said.
A statement from the office of Okonjo-Iweala, in reaction to rumous sparked by a satire online news site’s report that she has resigned her position, said the information is not true.
“The information is completely false and without foundation,” said Paul Nwabuikwu, the minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Communication.
Nwabiukwu described the publication as a “baseless falsehood that is part of the ongoing orchestrated campaign by entrenched interests and corrupt groups working against more transparent and improved governance in the country.”
“The obvious intention is to distract Dr Okonjo-Iweala from contributing to the realisation of the vision of President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria,” he said.
The rumours were ignited by the report in the website which stated that the minister resigned after looking through the federation account.
