That is what construction fraud due to use of substandard, fake, and inadequate materials will cause. Until our corrupt local, state and federal officials come up with legislations that will hold engineering companies and contractors accountabile for full payment or refund of the total costs of any project with civil and criminal liabilities, crooked construction firms and contractors will continue to kill innocent people with their use of fake and inadequate materials. For example, roads repair and maintenance even construction of new roads that cost Nigeria or state government billions to construct will suddenly collapse within days after they were finished because of corruption and looting by contractors together with government officials. A commissioner or minister may awards N800 millions new roads construction, before the kick off such project, the contractors who in most cases are close friends to Nigerian politicians that dish out the contracts would have spent about N500 to bribe the governor, commissioner or minister along side those that matters, in the end, the remaining N300 is not enough to cover the completion of the project. Can someone tell me how ma y local, state or federal contractors have been prosecuted for collapsed govt. building, drainage system, roads and bridges? None, because they ate the money together with their heartless and criminal friends. This why things had fallen apart in our lawless and corrupt society despite the wealth of the nation. In Nigeria, enemies of the nation and her people have occupied government positions at all levels to embezzle, loot, and mismanaged our scare resources for their own use for over 30 years. Until we-the citizens rise, unite, and start demanding from our elected official good governance, transparency, and a accountability this e il will definitely continues.

This has become a common occurrence in Nigeria, building collapse everywhere. One wonders why no contractor has been tried not to talk of conviction. This is because the contractors give bribes to the politicians, (Governors, Senators, Representatives, and even Local government chairmen) and what is left they use to build their so called “mansions” and whatever is left they use for the substandard job. Some contractors too collect the money and not do the job or do a substandard job. A very good example is Iwuanyanwu. Everybody in Imo State knows him as a crooked, heartless individual. During the reign of Ohakim this thief was collecting 10 million Naira every month for “contractor finance” and as the Godfather of Imo state politics. Another good example of how heartless politicians can be is, about 7 years ago a man (name with held) from Orlu in Imo state went to Nigeria with his White counterparts to establish a project that will benefit the people. They first went to Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Enugu, Anambra States, consulted with the Governors of those States and were granted permission. Remember they are using their own money for this project, they were not asking the State governments for funding. Finally they came to Imo State (his home state), met the governor who directed them to his chief of staff who in-turn redirected them to another man who will do the final decision. This man asked them “WHAT IS IN IT FOR ME?) They replied him “what do you mean” and he answered them, “THE GOVERNOR WILL TAKE HIS OWN CUT, THE CHIEF OF STAFF WILL TAKE HIS OWN CUT, AND I WILL TAKE MY OWN TOO”). The people that travelled from the United States reminded him that “WE ARE USING OUR OWN MONEY TO COME HERE TO HELP YOU, WE ARE NOT USING YOUR STATE MONEY AND YOU ARE ASKING US FOR YOUR OWN CUT?” He replied them “that is the way it is. They left in anger. This is to show you how corruption has eaten deep into the fabrics of the society. The only way to solve this, gather all those thieves, (the politicians and corrupt contractors) try them and anyone found guilty should be steam rolled. I suggest steam rolling them because a stint in prison will not deter them or others from stealing as they might be pardoned by another incoming governor or president. Execution is not an option as execution have not deterred armed robbers from robbing. Lets try steam rolling, maybe that will do.
