Magnitude 6.2 Earthquake Swallows Entire Town Of Amatrice Italy, Several Trapped
A terrible earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck Italy earlier today with reports of blackouts and damaged buildings.
The quake which struck around 3:30am today was felt across central Italy including the capital city of Rome where historic buildings felt a strong aftershock.
According to Mayor Sergio Perozzi, Amatrice city near Rieti was the worst hit as almost all the building in the city have been buried by the magnitude 6.2 quake.
Here is what one of the emergency rescuers sent to Amatrice told AP over the phone:
“It’s a tragedy,”‘It’s a drama, the area is gone. There are people under the rubble, I fear there are deaths,” “Look there are houses that aren’t here anymore. I hope we get some help.”
The casualty of the quake is now at 4.
No words yet on the condition of those under the rubble.
