Pregnant LAWMA Road Sweeper Killed By Petrol Tanker Driver In Ojota Lagos

Tragedy struck in Ojota Lagos yesterday as a pregnant road sweeper was crushed to her death by a tanker driver.

The sweeper working with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) identified as Mrs Kikelomo Bamidele was killed at Ojota area of Lagos State Nigeria by a petrol tanker with registration # Kano NSR 592 Y! while working inside the BRT lane near the pedestrian bridge.

According to eye witnesses, the Mrs Bamidele died at the Lagos State Emergency Centre at the old toll gate of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway where she was rushed.

“The tanker driver had break failure and was trying to manouver the vehicle when he veered into the BRT Lane where he crushed the sweeper. The sweeper’s leg was totally crushed and she lost a lot of blood,”  said a witness.

The tanker also damaged another car on the road but luckily the petrol tanker driver escaped unhurt.

An attempt to escape from the accident scene was foiled when he was pursued and arrested.

He was promptly handed over to the police at Ogudu.

The deceased is survived by her husband and 5 children.
